The Japanese automaker has been testing the Toyota RAV4 SUV in India for a while now. While there is no official word on its India launch timeline, the model is reported to hit showrooms sometime next year. Here, it will be brought via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route and then assembled locally at the carmaker’s Bidadi based facility in Karnataka. Since it will be a CBU unit, the RAV4 prices in India are likely to be around Rs 55 lakh – Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Toyota RAV4 SUV is currently in its fifth-generation in global markets. The model has been built on the TNGA-K (Toyota New Global Architecture-K) platform that ensures better visibility, handling, responsive steering and reduced emissions. The architecture is compatible to different drivetrains and vehicle sizes. Compared to the older model, the new RAV4 has angular design elements and longer wheelbase (2690mm). Toyota has equipped the new RAV4 SUV with lots of advanced goodies including a new 11 speakers JBL audio system, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat with memory function and 2-way lumbar support, a freestanding 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, a digital driver’s display, wireless charging, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats and heated rear seats, electronic parking brake and many more. Globally, the Toyota RAV4 is being offered with a 2.5L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated Atkinson cycle petrol engine paired to a 215bhp electric motor. The electric motor transmits 80 percent of torque to the rear wheels. Transmission duties are carried out by an 8-speed eCVT gearbox. The SUV comes with three driving modes, namely, Eco, Normal and Sport. It has Sport-tuned Independent MacPherson strut front suspension providing better handling and drivability.
