3 New Jeep SUVs Confirmed For India
The American SUV manufacturer, Jeep is planning to expand its Indian product portfolio with a range of new SUVs. Speaking to Autocar, Partha Datta, President and Managing Director at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India, has confirmed 3 new models for the Indian market. The plan outlines a new, three-row SUV, a sub-4-metre SUV and the new Compass.
The Jeep Compass facelift will be the first one to arrive in the market. Salted to go on sale in early 2021, the SUV is likely to witness subtle cosmetic changes including revised grille, front and rear bumpers and headlamps. Inside, the new Compass is likely to receive a larger touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity. The carmaker might also offer connected car technology on the SUV lineup.
The next Jeep product to hit our shores will be three-row SUV that will be put up against the cars like Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. Internally known as Jeep D-SUV, the vehicle will share its platform with the Compass and posses some serious off-road capabilities.
While the official name of the new Jeep 7-seater SUV is yet to be announced, it’s likely to be christened as ‘Jeep Grand Compass’. Powering the vehicle could be a 2.0L twin-turbo diesel engine that’s good enough for 200bhp. Both manual and automatic gearbox will be on offer.
The company will bring in the Jeep 526 (codename) subcompact SUV sometime in 2022. The vehicle will be designed on Fiat’s new-generation Panda 4X4 platform and come with a 4WD (four-wheel-drive) system. Rumour has it that the Jeep subcompact SUV will be offered with a new 1.3L, 4-cylinder FireFly turbo engine, which is essentially the de-tuned version of the Compass’ powertrain.
In India, the carmaker might also introduce its diesel model. Once launched, the Jeep 526 will go up against the Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Suzuki Jimny.
