Upcoming Jeep Compact SUV to Rival Tata Nexon, Suzuki Jimny

American SUV maker, Jeep is now readying 2 new SUVs for the Indian market. The company will launch the Compass facelift this year, which will be followed by a 7-seater SUV – codenamed Low-D. The company is also developing a sub-4 meter SUV, which is scheduled to be launched in India in 2021. The compact SUV will also go on sale in the international markets in 2022.

The sub-Renegade SUV will directly rival the Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny. The upcoming mini SUV is reportedly to be based on the Fiat’s new-generation Panda 4×4 platform. The SUV will be locally developed at Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility, which also develops the Jeep Compass SUV. With high-level of local components, the new Jeep sub-compact SUV is expected to be priced around Rs 10 lakh. It will be the smallest and most affordable Jeep SUV in India as well as in global markets.

Few media also reports that FCA could use the Groupe PSA CMF modular platform to develop the upcoming SUV. The new Jeep SUV is expected to feature electric as well as hybrid powertrains. The CMF modular platform is compatible to accommodate different body styles as well engine options including electric, hybrid, petrol and diesel.

The new Jeep sub-4 meter SUV is expected to feature the de-tuned version of the new 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder FireFly turbocharged engine, which will also power the Compass facelift. This engine will replace the existing 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine. It will be offered with two different power outputs – 150PS with 270Nm and 180PS with 270Nm. Both manual and automatic versions are likely to be on offer. A diesel version could also be on offer. In the global markets, the new Jeep sub-4 meter SUV will directly rival the Suzuki Jimny and the Ford EcoSport. It could also be the smallest SUV in India with all-wheel-drive layout.
