2021 Ford EcoSport To Come With Mahindra’s mStallion Petrol Engine
We have reported earlier that the American carmaker is planning to give a generation change to the Ford EcoSport subcompact SUV. The SUV’s third-generation model will be first launched in the Brazilian market sometime in 2021, followed by India. In our market, the 2021 Ford EcoSport will be offered with Mahindra’s new 1.2L, 3-cylinder mStallion petrol engine.
Mahindra’s new mStallion family petrol motor recently made its debut on the XUV300 Sportz that was showcased at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. It’s a BS6-compliant 1.2L, 3-cylinder GDI engine benefited with the turbocharger and direct injection technology. Paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, it delivers a peak power of 130bhp and a peak torque of 230Nm.
In 2021 Ford EcoSport lineup, the new mStallion turbo petrol engine will come as a replacement to the 1.0L EcoBoost gasoline unit. The latter was recently discontinued due to the upcoming BS6 emission norms. Mahindra’s mStallion engine family will also include a 1.5L, 4-cylinder and 2.0L motors, which are likely to be offered on the Marazzo and new-generation SUVs (including XUV500, Scorpio and Thar) respectively.
The mStallion family engines will also be used in the vehicle that will be developed under Mahindra-Ford alliance. Developed at Mahindra Research Valley R&D center, the new powertains are claimed to offer better fuel economy and low-end torque along with improved NVH levels.
The Brazil-spec 2021 Ford EcoSport will be based on the modified B3 platform and carry a more aggressive front fascia. The roof will be slightly lower than the existing model. The alloy wheels, LED taillamps and rear bumper will also be revised. The SUV’s new-generation model will be bigger and more spacious than the existing one. It’s likely to get a larger touchscreen with Sync4 infotainment system with smartphone connectivity.
