New Maruti WagonR 2019

The next-generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will continue to be based on the existing platform.

We informed you earlier that Maruti Suzuki will launch the new-generation Wagon R hatchback in the last week of January 2019. It is now confirmed that the next-gen model will go on sale on January 23, 2019. What’s interesting is that Tata has also opted the same day to launch its long-awaited Harrier 5-seater premium SUV. The Wagon R has been one of the best-selling hatchbacks for Maruti Suzuki in India.

The next-generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will be sold through regular Arena dealerships. The new iteration of the tall-boy hatchback has already been spotted testing on Indian roads, though clear images of the hatchback are yet to be out. The entry-level hatchback will make its public debut towards the end of December 2018.

The 2019 Maruti Wagon R for India will carry a different design theme compared to the global model, which was launched in Japan earlier this year. The India-spec model will retain the signature tall-boy design, but will have several changes in terms of styling components. The hatchback is likely to offer more interior space than the outgoing model; however, the wheelbase of the car is expected to remain the same. It was speculated that the next-gen Wagon R will be based on the Suzuki’s new-generation HEARTECT platform. However, the hatchback will continue with the modified version of the existing platform. Some of the design highlights are likely to include a prominent front grille, sleeker headlamps, newly designed alloy wheels, new tail-lamps and flatter roof. The top-spec model is likely to get a SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system, which will be compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Read – Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Cars In India

Upon its launch, the nex-generation Maruti Wagon R will challenge the likes of Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago. The hatchback will be powered by a 1.0-litre K10B 3-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit.
