The New Year will see launch of range of new cars in the Indian market, ranging from an entry-level hatchback to the luxurious sedans. While Mercedes-Benz will re-enter into the MPV segment, Nissan will again try its luck to improve its market share with an all-new SUV. Here we bring you a list of top 5 new cars launching in the month of January 2019 –

Tata Harrier

This is undoubtedly one of the most awaited new models in our country. The Harrier will be the brand’s all-new 5-seater premium SUV, which will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass and Nissan Kicks. It will be the brand’s first model to be based on the new OMEGA platform, which is borrowed from Land Rover’s D8 architecture. With this SUV, Tata will debut its new IMPACT 2.0 DESIGN philosophy. The Harrier will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which Tata called KRYOTEC. This engine is sourced from FCA and is capable of producing 138bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox.

New-Gen Maruti Wagon R

Maruti Suzuki will launch the new-generation Wagon R hatchback in India on January 23, 2019. While the Japanese-spec model is built on the Suzuki’s new-generation platform, the India-spec Wagon R will use the modified version of the existing platform. The hatchback will receive comprehensive upgrades in terms of design and interior. Moreover, the top-spec model will receive the Suzuki’s SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The hatchback will continue to be powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine paired to either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox.

Nissan Kicks

Japanese automaker, Nissan will launch the Kicks SUV in the country in January 2019. Official bookings for the SUV have already been commenced at a token amount of Rs 25,000. It is built on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s MO platform that also underpins the Renault Captur. The SUV is bigger and has longer wheelbase than the Hyundai Creta. It is powered by a 1.5-litre K9K diesel and a 1.5-litre petrol engine. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Mercedes-Benz V-Class

German luxury carmaker, Mercedes will officially re-enter into the MPV segment with the V-Class MPV. The MPV is scheduled to be launched in India on January 24, 2019. It will be imported from Spain and will be launched as a Completely Built Up unit. The MPV will be powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that churns out 191bhp of power and 400Nm of torque.

New Toyota Camry

Japanese automaker, Toyota will launch the all-new Camry sedan in the Indian market on January 18, 2019. The all-new Toyota Camry will only be available with a hybrid powertrain and will take on the likes of the Skoda Superb and the Honda Accord Hybrid. The new sedan is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture platform that also underpins the Lexus ES sedan. It is powered by a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 174bhp of power and 221Nm of torque. This engine is mated to 116bhp electric motor. The total power rating on the new Camry will be 205bhp.
