Will Suzuki Swift RS Come To India To Challenge Tata Tiago JTP?

The Maruti Swift RS shares its engine and components with the Maruti Baleno RS.

The home-grown carmaker, Tata Motors recently introduced its first ever performance-oriented vehicles – Tata Tiago JTP and Tata Tigor JTP. Priced at Rs 6.39 lakh, the Tata Tiago JTP becomes the country’s most affordable hot hatch. In order to challenge the new entrant, Maruti Suzuki might bring in its globally popular Suzuki Swift RS. The recent sighting of the hot hatch further fuels rumors of its India launch.

The Maruti Swift RS shares its engine mechanism and components with the Maruti Baleno RS. Power for the hot hatch comes from the same 1.0L, 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbocharged petrol motor producing power worth 101bhp at 5,500rpm and 150Nm of torque between 1,750rpm and 4,500rpm.

For transmission purpose, the hot hatch will have a 5-speed manual unit with the front-wheel-drive system. The turbocharged petrol powertain can do 0-100kmph in 11 to 12 seconds. It’s capable to attain a top speed of 160kmph. Read – 6 Reasons Why Everyone’s Buying The All-new Maruti Swift

Design of the Maruti Swift RS is sportier than the regular model, thanks to aesthetic enhancements. It gets revised front and rear bumpers, new body graphics and side skirts and a roof mounted spoiler. Interior has all-back treatment with notice sporty seats and RS badging. The hot hatch also gets Burning Red trims on the instrument cluster, central console, steering wheel and front doors. In terms of pricing, the Maruti Swift RS will be slightly premium than the hatchback’s existing range-topping petrol model. If reports are to be believed, the Maruti Swift RS will hit Indian shores by mid 2019.
