4 Reasons Why Suzuki Swift Sport Should Launch In India

2018 Maruti Swift Sport India

While the carmaker hasn’t yet confirmed the new Swift Sport for the Indian market, we think it makes a lot of sense for Maruti Suzuki to launch it here.

The new-generation Suzuki Swift Sport, the performance-oriented hatchback, went on sale in Japan last year. Now, the hot-hatch landed in the UK with a price tag of £16,499 (which is around Rs 15.09 lakh). While the carmaker hasn’t yet confirmed the new Swift Sport for the Indian market, we think it makes a lot of sense for Maruti Suzuki to launch it here. Here are our four reasons –

1. Affordable Hot-hatch

Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS is the first-ever performance-oriented hatchback from the Indo-Japanese carmaker in India. Priced at Rs 8.44 lakh, the Baleno RS is currently the most affordable hot-hatch in the country. However, it is one of the least powerful among its competitors including Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione, Fiat Abarth Punto and Volkswagen Polo GT TSI/TDI . The new Swift Sport, with a 138.8bhp, 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol engine, could become more powerful yet affordable option for the enthusiasts. With heavy localization, this hot-hatch could be priced under Rs 10 lakh. Though, the carmaker will import its engine, suspension and a few other components.

2. Attract Masses

Maruti cars are renowned for their fuel efficiency, low cost maintenance and high resale value. The Swift brand has always been a volume generator for the Indo-Japanese carmaker in India. Fitting in shoes of its predecessor, the new-generation Swift is performing phenomenal and became India’s top-selling car in April, 2018. It has beaten its own popular siblings including Alto and Dzire. Ticking all the right boxes, the Suzuki Swift Sport will surely make it a more alluring deal for buyers. Additionally, it will be high on performance.

3. A Well-rounded Package

The third-generation Swift Sport sits on Suzuki’s new HEARTECT platform that not only makes it lighter and stiffer than the old model, but aids to its overall performance and handling as well. Weighing just 975kg, the hot-hatch can do 0-100kmph in just 8.1 seconds. Interestingly, it is claimed to be 2.51 seconds faster than the 105PS Volkswagen Polo GT TSI that accelerates 0-100kmph in 10.61 seconds. What further enhance its performance are the exclusive Monroe suspension setup, bigger brakes, 17-inch alloys and of course the 140PS Boosterjet powertrain. Read: New Maruti Swift Vs Old – What’s The Difference?

Design and styling of the Swift Sport is a lot better than most of its rivals. The new-gen model looks even better than its old version. Adding a premium touch to its interior, the carmaker introduced a range of new features to the carline. The Swift Sport won’t be the only car for pure performance, but as a feature-loaded and stylish machine it will be a good option to potter around town as well. Check Out – Upcoming Maruti Cars in India

4. A Maruti For Enthusiasts

Maruti Suzuki is the leading passenger carmaker in the country. With the launch of the Vitara Brezza, the Indo-Japanese carmaker also became the largest utility vehicle maker in the first quarter of fiscal year 2018. Cars like Ertiga MPV and S-Cross crossover also helped the company to surpassed Mahindra & Mahindra and grab the top spot. Maruti entered the hot-hatch segment with the Baleno RS that failed to accomplish the carmakers expectations.  Yes it’s still the top-selling hot hatch (if you want to call it) but the numbers aren’t too great considering it’s a MARUTI!

The new Swfit Sport might achieve what its premium sibling failed to do. Why we say so? Well, this hot-hatch has more powerful engine combined with better performance, styling and well-equipped cabin. Affordable pricing will further attract masses. The Indo-Japanese carmaker won’t only expand its performance-oriented product portfolio with the Swift Sport, but create a positive perception among the performance-hungry lot as well.
