2021 will be an action-packed year for the Indian automobile industry. Most of the car manufacturers have already planned their roadmap for the next year. Here, we have listed the top upcoming new models from Toyota, Honda, Renault and Ford that are slated to see a release in 2021.

Toyota Fortuner Facelift

Toyota Kirloskar Motor will roll out the updated Fortuner in the second or third week of January, 2021. Unofficial bookings of the new model have already been started a token sum of Rs 50,000. Most of the cosmetic changes will be made at the front end, while side and rear profile will remain largely unchanged. Reports suggest that the 2021 Toyota Fortuner facelift might come with the more powerful version of the 2.8L turbo diesel engine that’s good for 204PS. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer.

Re-badged Toyota Ciaz

Toyota’s re-badged versions of the Maruti Baleno hatchback and Vitara Brezza compact SUV have already been launched as Toyota Glanza and Urban Cruiser. Now, the company will bring in the re-badged and slightly re-engineered Maruti Ciaz sometime in 2021. Minor cosmetic changes are likely to be made to the sedan. However, its engine setup will remain unchanged. Toyota’s Ciaz based sedan will feature the same 1.5L K-Series SHVS petrol engine making 103bhp with 138Nm.

The Japanese carmaker also aims to tap the compact MPV space with the help of its partner – Maruti Suzuki. Toyota will introduce the re-badged version of the Maruti Ertiga in 2021. The model is likely to witness a few noticeable changes inside and out. Under the hood, it will continue to feature the 1.5L petrol motor with SHVS mild hybrid technology. Similar to the Ertiga, the new Toyota compact MPV will be offered with 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox options.

Recently, the Japanese carmaker revealed the new Honda City e-HEV Sport hybrid sedan in Thailand. The same model will also make its way to India in 2021. The hybrid City comes with a 1.5L Atkinson-cycle DOHC i-VTEC engine (98bhp/127Nm) and an electric motor (108bhp/253Nm). It also has Honda’s Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) hybrid technology. With a single speed gearbox, the hybrid sedan offers a claimed mileage of 27.8kmpl on the NEDC cycle.

Rumour has it that Honda Cars India is planning to launch a new sub-4 metre SUV to challenge the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. It might hit our shores in late 2021. The new Honda compact SUV will share its underpinning with the Amaze. It might be offered with a 1.0L i-VTEC petrol (120bhp/173Nm) and 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engines. The new compact SUV might also be offered with hybrid powertrain similar to the upcoming City hybrid.

The French carmaker will kick start the new year with the launch of the Renault Kiger subcompact SUV. In terms of pricing, it will take directly on the newly-launched Nissan Magnite and Tata Nexon. The Kiger will be the smallest and most affordable Renault SUV in the country. The compact SUV will be made available with naturally aspirated and turbocharged version of the 1.0L petrol engine. While the former will come with manual and AMT gearbox options, the latter one will come with manual and CVT automatic transmissions.

Renault is working on a sub-4 metre sedan that will be put up against the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. Design and styling of Renault’s upcoming sedan is likely to be inspired from the new Taliant (Logan). Similar to the Triber, it will be based on the CMF-A+ platform. There might be two engines on offer –a 1.0L naturally aspirated (72bhp/96Nm) and a 1.0L turbo petrol (100bhp/160Nm). Similar to the Kiger, the new Renault sedan will come with manual (standard) and CVT gearbox options.

Ford EcoSport is ready to get a generation change in 2021. Reports suggest that new model will be based on the updated version of the existing B platform. While there is no information about the India-spec model, the Brazilian version will be longer than before. One of the major update will come in the form of Mahindra’s new mStallion petrol engine instead of the discontinued 1.0L EcoSoost motor. The new gasoline unit will be good enough for 10bhp and 230Nm of torque. Significant changes will also be made to its exterior and interior.
