All-New Skoda Fabia Testing Begins; Debut In 2021

We reported earlier that Skoda has started working on the next-gen Fabia hatchback, which is expected to be introduced in the European markets in 2021. The all-new Skoda Fabia has been spotted testing for the first time in Europe.

The fourth-generation Skoda Fabia will be designed and developed on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB AO modular platform, which also underpins the Volkswagen Polo, SEAT Ibiza and the Audi A1. This platform will help Skoda to create more space inside the cabin. Adding to it, the platform will improve the hatchback’s driving dynamics. The new spy images of the hatchback reveals that it shares styling cues from the Skoda Scala hatchback and the new-gen Octavia.

The all-new Skoda Fabia was caught testing earlier using VW Polo as testing bed. However, the new spy images show that the hatchback will have more traditional look. It features sleeker headlamps and slender-looking split headlamps. The vehicle is likely to receive full LED lighting system. The spy images also confirm that the new model will grow in size and will offer more space inside the cabin.

It is expected that the new Skoda Fabia will offer practical, clutter free cabin with good quality material and top-notch fit & finish. Like the platform, the new Fabia will most likely use the 3-cylinder gasoline engines that power the Polo, Nivus, T-Cross and the Seat Ibiza. It is unlikely to get Polo GTI’s 2.0 TSI engine that also powers the top-spec Audi A1.

The new-gen Skoda Fabia is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine in naturally-aspirated and turbocharged versions. Transmission options are likely to include 5- and 6-speed manual gearboxes and a 7-speed, dual-clutch automatic. The new model could also receive mild hybrid technology, which is currently offered in the new Octavia. This will help Skoda to cut emissions and improves fuel efficiency.
