2021 is going to be a big year for the Indian automobile industry. There will be multiple new car launches along with entry of some new players including Groupe PSA with Citroen brand. Kia Motors and MG Motor, that started their Indian operations in 2019, will also expand the product lineup with a couple of new models. Here’s the list of the upcoming new Kia, MG and Citroen cars that are scheduled to launch in 2021.
Upcoming New Kia Cars In 2021
New Kia MPV
After the Seltos, Carnival and Sonet, Kia Motor India will introduce a compact MPV to challenge dominance of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The model will share its platform with the Seltos SUV and sit between the Seltos and Carnival in the company’s product lineup. The carmaker says that its upcoming compact MPV will provide “adequate space” for seven adult passengers and come with an “affordable price” tag. The new Kia MPV is reported to hit showrooms by the end of 2021.
Upcoming New MG Cars In 2021
MG ZS Petrol
Currently, MG Motor India sells the electric version of the ZS SUV. In early 2021, the British carmaker will roll out its petrol model to challenge Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Globally, the model is offered with 1.3L turbo petrol and 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engines making 160bhp with 230Nm and 118bhp with 150Nm respectively. As of now, the engine details of the India-spec MG ZS petrol are not available. Design and features of the petrol version will be similar to the ZS EV.
MG 360M
Morris Garages will also mark its entry into the compact MPV space with the MG 360M that was previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo. Based on the China-spec Baojun 360, the 360M will be 220mm longer than its arch rival – Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. In fact, it will have 10mm longer wheelbase than the Ertiga. Under the hood, the compact MPV will feature a 1.5L petrol engine that’s good enough for 103PS and 135Nm of torque. Transmission duties will be done by a CVT automatic gearbox.
Upcoming New Citroen Cars In 2021
Citroen C5 Aircross
Citroen C5 Aircross will be the first offering from the French carmaker in the Indian market. The carmaker has already started trail assembly of the model at CK Birla’s Thiruvallur based facility in Tamil Nadu. Reports suggest that the SUV will be offered with two diesel engines – 2.0L (180bhp) and 1.5L (131bhp). Both motors will be paired to an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The French carmaker will sell limited units of the SUV across 10 major cities.
Citroen C21
Citroen will foray into the subcompact SUV segment with the C21 (codename) to rival Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV3300. Its testing has already begun in the country and its launch will happen in the second half of 2021. It will be based on the Groupe PSA CMP (EMP) platform that underpins multiple Citroen and Peugeot cars. The new Citroen compact SUV is likely to come with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine delivering power close to 130bhp. There might also be a 1.5L diesel engine.
