Honda Cars India is planning to expand its SUV portfolio with two new models in the next couple of years. While one of them will be a sub-4 metre SUV, the other one will measure around 4.4m in length and take on Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Here’re 5 things we know so far about the upcoming Honda subcompact SUV.
Based On New City Platform
The new Honda small SUV will be based on the new platform that also underpins the fifth-generation City sedan. The carmaker claims that the new architecture makes the 2020 City lighter, safer and more rigid in structure. So, we expect the upcoming model to posses aforementioned attributes.
New Official Name
The official name of the new Honda compact SUV is yet to be announced by the carmaker. Recently, Honda registered the ZR-V nameplate that’s likely to be used for its upcoming new Creta and Seltos rival.
Global SUV
Honda’s upcoming subcompact SUV will be a global product that will also be sold in other emerging markets. In its Indian product lineup, the new Honda SUVs will bridge the gap between the WR-V and CR-V.
2 Petrol Engines
If reports are to be believed, the new Honda compact SUV will be offered with two petrol engine options. There might be a 1.0L turbo petrol motor borrowed from the City sedan and a 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol engine with Honda’s compact hybrid system called e-HEV. The former delivers a claimed power of 120bhp at 5,500rpm and 173Nm of torque between 2,000rpm – 4,500rpm. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are likely to be on offer.
