Car manufacturers have planned several new models for the Indian market. It includes multiple all-new cars across different segments, new-generation models and facelifts. Here’s a brief on India’s top 10 SUVs, which are ready to enter into their next generation.
2021 Force Gurkha
Previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo, the new-generation Force Gurkha is all set to hit roads in coming months. Its official launch date, however, is yet to be announced. The compact off-road SUV looks more rugged than before, while retaining the original retro-styled design elements. Comprehensive changes have also been made to its interior. Under the hood, the 2021 Force Gurkha features the BS6-compliant 90bhp, engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox and an optional 4WD system.
2021 Maruti Vitara Brezza
India’s top-selling subcompact SUV – Maruti Vitara Brezza – will witness a generation during 2021 festive season. The model will receive noticeable changes inside and out. Reports suggest that the new model will underpin Suzuki’s Heartect platform and come with a sunroof and connected car tech. One of the biggest changes might come in the form of the stronger hybrid system with a 1.5L K15B naturally aspirated petrol engine. The SUV will also get a new 6-speed automatic gearbox instead of the 4-speed unit.
2022 Mahindra Scorpio
The new-generation Mahindra Scorpio is reported to come towards the end of 2021 or early 2022. With the generation change, the SUV will grow in size and underpin the modified ladder frame chassis sourced from the new Thar. Significant changes will be made on its exterior and interior. The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will come with the two turbocharged engines – 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L mHawk. There will be two gearboxes on offer – 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
2022 Toyota Fortuner
Toyota Fortuner, India’s tops-selling premium SUV, will enter into its new-generation sometime next year. If reports are to be believed, the new model will be packed with several advanced features including ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), vehicle stability control (VSC) and electric power steering. The SUV might be offered with the diesel hybrid powertrain. At present, the Fortuner comes with the 2.8L diesel and 2.7L petrol engines making power worth 104bhp and 166bhp respectively.
2022 Ford Endeavour
The new-generation Ford Endeavour will make its global debut sometime next year. The new model will be bigger and more premium than the existing one. In fact, the carmaker will use the slightly updated ladder frame platform for the new Endeavour. Some of its design bits will be carried forward from the new Ford F150 Raptor. The 2022 Ford Endeavour model lineup is likely to receive a new Wildtrack X trim. There will be two engine options – 2.0L, 4-cylinder twin turbo EcoBlue diesel and a 250bhp, 3.0L, 6-cylinder turbo diesel. The more powerful motor will be reserved for the higher trims. A 10-speed automatic gearbox will be standard across the model lineup. Rumour has it that the new Endeavour will get the hybrid powertrain at a later stage.
2022 Renault Duster
The French carmaker might introduce the third-generation Renault Duster in India. While there is no official word on its launch timeline, it’s reported to arrive sometime next year. Design of the SUV’s new model could be inspired by the recently-unveiled Dacia Bigster concept. The 2022 Renault Duster will be designed on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-B platform and is likely to receive comprehensive changes inside and out. At present, it’s available with the 1.3L turbo petrol engine and 6-speed manual and 7-speed CVT automatic gearbox options.
New Ford EcoSport
Ford will give a generation change to its highly popular EcoSport compact SUV in the country. The new model is likely to make its global debut towards the end of 2022 or early 2023. If reports are to be believed, the 2022 Ford EcoSport will carry crossover-ish stance and measure around 4.3 meters in length (global-spec). The SUV might underpin the modified version of the existing platform. Currently, the EcoSport comes with 1.5L petrol (121bhp/149Nm) and 1.5L turbo diesel (99bhp/215Nm) engines.
New Tata Nexon
Tata Nexon subcompact SUV will receive a generation change in coming years. Its official launch details are yet to be revealed by the carmaker. Though, it’s reported to debut at the 2022 Auto Expo and the launch might take place towards the end of next year. The subcompact SUV will receive significant cosmetic changes and feature upgrades, while the engines are likely to be retained. The biggest change will be made to its underpinning. The new Nexon will be based on the brand’s Alfa platform that will also be used for the new-generation Tiago hatchback and Tigor compact sedan.
New Mahindra XUV500
Reports suggest that the home-grown carmaker will re-introduce the XUV500 5-seater to challenge Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. While the new model won’t come before 2024, the company will launch its new 7-seater version – Mahindra XUV700. The latter one is slated to hit roads by October 2021. Compared to the current generation, the new one will be significantly smaller measuring around 4.3 meters. The new XUV500 will come with the 1.5L diesel and 1.5L turbo petrol engines and manual and automatic gearbox options.
