New-Generation Renault Duster – Is It Coming To India?

Renault Duster was first launched in India in 2012. The mid-size SUV did really well for the French carmaker initially; however, its sales declined drastically after the arrival of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Now, the company is considering reviving the Duster brand with a generation change. While there is no official word on its launch timeline, rumours are on rife that the new Renault Duster will arrive sometime in 2022 or 2023. One must note that the second-generation Duster has been on sale in global markets since 2017. It will be the third-generation model that will make its way to India. One of the biggest changes will be made to its underpinning. The 2022 Renault Duster will be built on the CMF-B platform that’s designed and developed under the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The architecture, which is based on a common modular design, has been used for several Nissan and Renault models. The carmaker says that the CMF-B platform can be “adapted for different markets and customer expectations around the world”.

Rumour also has it that the new Renault Duster will borrow some of its design bits from the Dacia Bigster concept previewing the brand’s flagship SUV. The concept features a slim grille, massive front bumper, differently designed Y-shaped headlamps and taillamps, LED lighting system, a flat roof line, prominent wheel arches and 5-spoke alloy wheels.

As of now, details of the 2022 Renault Duster are scanty. Though, the SUV is likely to receive significant design changes and feature upgrades. Currently, it comes with a 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine boosted with direct injection system. The motor pushes out a peak power of 156bhp and 245Nm of torque. It can be had with either with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed CVT automatic gearbox. Rumour has it that the carmaker might offer the new Renault Duster with the hybrid powertrain and alternative-energy options.
