Mahindra XUV700
Mahindra has announced to launch the much-awaited XUV700 7-seater SUV in the Indian market by October 2021, before Diwali. Set to replace the XUV500, the new SUV will be positioned against the likes of the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and the upcoming Hyundai Alcazar. Mahindra has confirmed that the new XUV700 will come with an optional all-wheel-drive system. It will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0L turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
New-gen Mahindra Scorpio
Mahindra will introduce the next generation Scorpio SUV in early 2022. The new model will ride on modified ladder-on-frame chassis, which also underpins the new Thar. The SUV will grow in size and will be more feature-loaded and spacious than the existing model. It will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0L petrol and a 2.2L turbo-diesel. The SUV will come with an optional all-wheel-drive configuration.
Maruti Jimny LWB
Maruti Suzuki is working on a long-wheelbase version of the Jimny off-roader, which is rumoured to be introduced in our market by July 2022. The new model will ride on 300mm longer wheelbase, and will have 300mm longer body compared to the Jimny Sierra. The SUV is reportedly to feature a 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine with SHVS mild hybrid system. The India-spec model could get the 1.5L NA petrol engine producing 102bhp and 130Nm of torque. Suzuki all-grip all-wheel-drive system will come as standard with the new LWB Jimny.
Jeep Commander
Jeep will introduce a new 7-seater SUV based on the COmpass SUV in India in early 2022. Rumoured to be called the Jeep Commander, the new SUV will be positioned against the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The SUV will be powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel engine, which is likely to produce around 200bhp and over 400Nm of torque. It will be paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Like the Compass, the upcoming Jeep Commander will get an optional 4×4 setup.
5-Seater VW Tiguan
Volkswagen will launch the 5-seater Tiguan facelift in June 2021. The new model will come with revised styling and new features along with a new engine option. It will receive a 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine that produces a maximum power output of 187bhp and a peak torque of 320Nm. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG. The SUV will also get Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.
New Force Gurkha
Force Motors will launch the new-gen Gurkha off-road SUV in the Indian market in the next few months. The new model will have rugged looks and more refreshing interiors than the previous model. It will be based on the new chassis and will be compliant with crash test and pedestrian safety norms. The SUV will feature the BS6-compliant diesel engine that produces 90bhp of power. The off-road SUV comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox and 4WD (four-wheel drive) system with manual locking differentials controlled through levers.
