Tata Motors has announced a price hike across its entire model range up to 2.2 per cent. The new prices will be effective from August 1, 2018. The company says that it will increase car prices due to the increased input costs. The price hike will vary model-wise. Commenting on the same, Mayank Pareek, President Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors said, “We have been working on cost cutting, but the problem of input cost pressure is piling up and we will be taking a price increase on our passenger vehicles by August.”

In the passenger vehicle segment, Tata Motors have nine products including three hatchbacks (Tiago, Bolt and GenX Nano), two sedans (Tigor and Zest) and four SUVs (Nexon, Hexa, Safari Strome and Sumo Gold. The home-grown carmaker believes that the price hike won’t impact their growing sales momentum. In June 2018, Tata Motors registered sales of 56,773 units as against 36,836 units of the same month last year. The company accounted 54% growth in the domestic market. The major sales contributors were – the Tiago hatchback, Tigor sedan, Nexon compact SUV and Hexa SUV. Interestingly, the Tata Tiago and Tigor crossed the 200,000 sales milestone in June, 2018.
In June, the Tata Nexon outsold the Ford EcoSport with a good margin. While the former registered sales of 4,308 units, the latter one recorded sales of 4,007 units. Aiming to further boost its sales, the carmaker recently introduced a new XM AMT trim to the carline. Available with both petrol and diesel engines, the Tata Nexon XM AMT is priced at Rs 7.50 lakh and Rs 8.53 lakh respectively (all, ex-showroom Delhi).
