Tata Nexon AMT Now Available On XM Trim, Price Announced

Tata Nexon AMT XMA variant

Besides the new gearbox, the Tata Nexon AMT also gets a brand new Ivory White roof-colour option.

In the month of May 2018, Tata Nexon AMT aka ‘HyprDrive’ was introduced in India. Though it was made available only with the top-end XZ+ variant, called XZA+. Seeing the customer response and demand for AMT on other variants too, Tata Motors has now introduced it on the best-selling XM trim too. The AMT gearbox will be available on both the petrol and diesel variants of the Tata Nexon XM priced at Rs 7.50 lakh and Rs 8.53 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively.

With the launch of this, Tata Nexon has become the only petrol car in its class to offer an AMT ( FYI – EcoSport has a proper 6-speed automatic gearbox). The diesel AMT, however, are being sold with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Mahindra TUV300. If we look at the pricing of the Tata Nexon AMT diesel, it’s at par with its closest rival Brezza. But what actually goes in the favour of Nexon is the Multi-Drive Modes (Eco, City and Sport).

Besides the new gearbox, the Tata Nexon AMT also gets a brand new Ivory White roof-colour option that according to the company will “further accentuate the Coupe-inspired design of the Tata Nexon”. Coming to the gearbox itself, the company says that it gets features such as anti-stall, kick-down and fast-off that help optimize the AMT to offer best power output during overtake or at times when one needs to quickly accelerate. Since we haven’t tested it yet, so can’t comment on how well it would perform.

Besides the above-mentioned features, the AMT version also gets Hill Assist and Crawl function – which are typical features of this gearbox. While the Hill assist won’t let vehicle roll back on uphills, the crawl function let’s the vehicle move on its own upto a certain speed (6-8kmph usually) to make it easy to drive in bumper-to-bumper traffic situations. One can literally operate the vehicle with the help of brake (with no input required from accelerator).

Coming to the safety features, the Nexon XMA, like other variants, gets dual airbags (for driver & front passenger) and ABS + EBD. So overall, the Nexon comes across as a feature-rich package. We hope to drive it soon, and bring you a detailed review of it. Stay tuned to ICN.
