First Lot of New Skoda Octavia RS Sold Out

The new Skoda Octavia RS is the more premium, sportier and powerful than the regular Octavia sedan.

Wow, this has come as a surprise for us! The newly-launched 2017 Skoda Octavia RS has gone out of stock in the country. This means that all the units allotted for the Indian market have been sold out. This shows that the Indian enthusiasts were actually waiting for the performance sedan that promises a great driving fun along with a feature-packed interior at a decent price. Currently, the new sportier version of the Octavia has been sold out across all Skoda dealerships, and the next batch will be available by February 2018.

Priced at Rs 24.62 lakh (ex-showroom), this new Skoda Octavia RS RS is essentially a more premium, sportier and powerful version of the standard Octavia sedan. First previewed in December 2016, this performance sedan is being imported to India via CBU route. For 2017 model year, the performance sedan witnessed significant cosmetic upgrades especially on the front fascia. Some of the key changes include new LED headlamps with adaptive front lighting system (AFS), a wider griller and air intakes and revised bumper. On the contrary, the side profile remains unchanged. Interior of the performance sedan has also been classed up with a pack of new comfort and connectivity features. The multiple driver assistance system and the new-generation Skoda infotainment system further enhance its convenience levels. The list of features includes a multi-functional steering wheel with paddleshifts, LED torch in boot area, umbrella holder under driver sear and illuminated door handle recesses.

With an aim to improve damping capabilities of the Octavia RS, Skoda has tweaked the suspension system of the sedan. In fact, the company has offered a wider rear track. The dynamic chassis control (DCC) continues to come as standard fitment on the sedan. Under the skin, Skoda’s new performance sedan features the brand’s tried and tested 230bhp, 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine paired to a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The first lot of the new Octavia RS has been sold out in India. Reports suggest that the next batch will hit showrooms by February next year. Though, the interested buyers can pre-book the sedan with an initial sum of Rs 50,000.

Skoda’s all-new Octavia RS derives its power from a 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine coupled to a 6-speed DSG (direct-shift gearbox) automatic transmission. This gasoline unit dishes out a maximum power output of 230bhp, while generating a peak torque of 350Nm. The saloon is capable to mark 100kmph from standstill in 6.8 seconds. Despite being a performance machine, the Octavia RS is quite decent in terms of fuel economy. Power-packed with the 2.0L petrol unit, the saloon returns a mileage around 12kmpl (43.4mpg). The carbon emissions stand at 149g/km.

In terms of design and styling, the new 2017 Skoda Octavia RS shares resemblance with the facelifted Octavia, especially the front fascia. Face of the car looks more aggressive and sportier than before. The saloon sports quad-LED headlamps, revised front bumper with three air intake, a black radiator grille with ‘RS’ badge and chrome surround and horizontal LED fog lamps of both the sides.

Save for the larger 19-inch alloy wheels, the side profile looks exactly similar to the previous model. The rear design has also been revised with a new black diffuser element on the rear bumper and LED tail lamps. The license plate also comes with LED illumination. Sporting an all-black colour theme and new RS-Sport seat, the new Skoda Octavia RS looks quite sporty from inside. While the ambient lighting comes as standard, the Alcantara upholstery is optional. There are ‘RS’ badges on steering wheel, door sills, headrests and gear knob. Skoda is also offering ‘Simply Clever’ touches to the saloon including an LED torch removable from the boot lid of the estate and an umbrella under the passenger seat. The car also gets a multi-function sports steering and several driver assistance technologies such as Blind Spot Detect, Trailer Assist and Rear Traffic Alert.

The new Octavia RS also comes with a new Crew Protect Assist feature that not only closes sunroofs and windows in case of an imminent accident, but tightens occupants’ seatbelts to reduce injuries as well. Moreover, this system also works with the Front Assist system enabling it use city emergency braking system and avoid the crash. It also gets a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink connectivity.
