The Skoda Octavia RS Edition will be more premium, sportier and powerful than the regular model.
In 2017, Skoda will introduce the new Octavia RS in India along with three more models.
December 22, 2016 – Skoda has revealed the high-performance version of the Octavia sedan – Octavia RS – via official pictures. The 2017 Skoda Octavia RS will be sportier, more premium and powerful than the regular model. As a reminder, the saloon’s performance-oriented edition – vRS – was introduced in India in 2004. However, this time around the badge will be RS instead of the ‘vRS’.
Talking about the engine, the Skoda Octavia vRS comes with two powertrain options – a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel. The former churns out 227bhp with 350Nm of torque, and the latter one delivers 181bhp with 380Nm. This petrol mill can do 0-100kmph in 6.7 seconds, while maintaining a top speed of 250kmph. On the other hand, the diesel mill is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in 7.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 232kmph. While a 6-speed manual gearbox will standard, a 6-speed DSG will come as an option. The petrol version will have FWD (front-wheel drivetrain) system, and the diesel model could be brought either with FWD or AWD.
In terms of design, the 2017 Skoda Octavia RS shares a strong resemblance with the facelifted Octavia, especially the front fascia. This performance edition features a new bumper with wider air dam, revised front grille with ‘RS’ badge, larger alloys, a new black diffuser element on the rear bumper and LED taillights.
Inside, the 2017 Skoda Octavia RS features an all-black colour theme and new RS-Sport seats. There is ‘RS’ badges on steering wheel, door sills, headrests and gear knob. The car also gets a multi-function sports steering and standard ambient lighting. This performance edition has several driver assistance technologies such as Blind Spot Detect, Trailer Assist and Rear Traffic Alert.
The new Octavia RS also comes with a new Crew Protect Assist feature that not only closes sunroofs and windows in case of an imminent accident, but tightens occupants’ seatbelts to reduce injuries as well. Moreover, this system also works with the Front Assist system enabling it use city emergency braking system and avoid the crash. It remains to be seen which one will make to the India-bound Skoda Octavia RS.
Sokda Auto India had revealed its plan of introducing 4 new products in the Indian market by 2017. The products that are being considered for India are Skoda Octavia RS, Octavia Black Edition, Kodiaq SUV and Rapid Monte Carlo Edition. The Czech carmaker will also make an investment of Rs 100 crore on its after sales services that help it improve brand value and customers experience.
Apart expanding its product lineup, Skoda India will also make ABS (anti-lock braking system) protection standard across all variants of its vehicles. The company has already introduced dual airbags standard on all its models.
Skoda India has confirmed that it will launch the Octavia RS next year, and we expect it to see by the mid of 2017.
