The Skoda Octavia vRS Edition will be more premium, sportier and powerful than the regular Octavia sedan.
In India, the 2017 Skoda Octavia vRS will come with a 2.0-litre TSI and a 2.0-litre TDI engine options.
2017 year will be very special for the Czech Republic auto manufacturer – Skoda, as the company has four important products in the pipeline. While the carmaker aims to tap the growing SUV space with the all-new 7-seater Kodiaq, it will target enthusiasts with the performance-oriented Octavia vRS facelift. The 2017 Skoda Octavia vRS first broke cover via official pictures in December last year. Now, the Czech Republic carmaker is gearing up to bring in the updated version of the performance sedan in the country. A latest report claims that the new Octavia vRS will see a release in coming September. In fact, certain dealers have begun taking pre-orders for the car for initially sum between Rs 20,000 – Rs 51,000. Though, no official word has been made on the same.
The new 2017 Skoda Octavia vRS is essentially a more premium, sportier and powerful version of the standard Octavia sedan. While the international markets have two body variants of the performance sedan – Estate and Hatchback, the India-spec version is likely to be available with hatchback body-type. The updated model receives multiple design changes especially on the front fascia including new headlamps with adaptive front lighting system (AFS), a wider griller and air intakes and revised bumper. While the side profile remains unchanged, the rear styling looks more refreshing. Interior of the performance sedan has also been classed up with a few new comfort features. The multiple driver assistance system and the new-generation Skoda infotainment system further enhance its convenience level of the car.
For improving damping capabilities of the Octavia vRS, Skoda has revised its suspension setup and wider its rear track. The dynamic chassis control (DCC) continues to come as standard fitment on the sedan. Engine setup includes a 2.0-litre TSI and a TDI motor producing 230bhp with 350Nm and 184bhp with 380Nm respectively. Both the powertrains are linked to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed DSG gearbox. Skoda had confirmed the Octavia vRS India launch for this year. Though, it didn’t reveal the exact launch timeline of the car. As per a new report, the facelifted performance sedan will be rolled out in coming September – i.e. just prior to the festive season. Featuring significant cosmetic updates and new features, the new Octavia vRS will see minor price hike. Under the hood, the new Skoda Octavia vRS houses a 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine churning out a maximum power of 230bhp and 350Nm of torque. This motor is capable of achieving 0-100kmph in 6.7 seconds, while attaining a top speed of 250kmph. The diesel version of the performance sedan comes with a 2.0-litre TDI engine making 184bhp and 380Nm of torque. It can accelerate 0 to 100kmph in 7.9 seconds, and offers a top speed of 232kmph. The TDI version could be exclusively offered with a four-wheel drive system. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and an optional 7-speed DSG unit. For the record, Skoda claims that the 2.0L petrol powered vRS returns a fuel economy of 12kmpl (43.4mpg). The carbon emissions stand at 149g/km. Though, the mileage figures change with DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox-equipped variants.
Design and styling of the new 2017 Skoda Octavia vRS looks identical to the facelifted Octavia, especially the front fascia. The car gets fully adaptive LED headlights, revised front bumper with wider air dam and re-designed front grille with ‘RS’ badge. Save for the larger alloy wheels, the side design remain unchanged. Cabin of the new Skoda Octavia RS with an all-black colour theme and new RS-Sport seats looks quite sporty. While the ambient lighting comes as standard, the Alcantara upholstery is optional. There are ‘RS’ badges on steering wheel, door sills, headrests and gear knob. Skoda is also offering ‘Simply Clever’ touches to the saloon including an LED torch removable from the boot lid of the estate and an umbrella under the passenger seat. The car also gets a multi-function sports steering and several driver assistance technologies such as Blind Spot Detect, Trailer Assist and Rear Traffic Alert.
The new Octavia RS also comes with a new Crew Protect Assist feature that not only closes sunroofs and windows in case of an imminent accident, but tightens occupants’ seatbelts to reduce injuries as well. Moreover, this system also works with the Front Assist system enabling it use city emergency braking system and avoid the crash. It remains to be seen which one will make to the India-bound Skoda Octavia RS.
