We informed you earlier that Maruti Suzuki is considering the global next-generation Jimny for the Indian market. In fact, media reports claim that India could be the production hub for the global markets as well. Ahead of public debut in May 2018, studio shots & details of the SUV have already hit the internet. While the global Jimny will be a three door car, the India-spec model will be a long wheelbase 5 door model.
The next Jimny will be longer than the outgoing model. In fact, the short wheelbase model will be longer; while the current car is 3.69 meter in length, the upcoming Jimny will measure 3.91 Meyers. Previous reports claimed that the next Jimny could be launched in India as a lifestyle vehicle. It could be launched as a next-generation Gypsy and will have longer wheelbase. It is likely to go on sale by the end of 2019 or early 2020. According to the international media, the next Jimny will get several safety features as standard, and it will comply with global crash test standards.
It will be powered by a 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine that produces 110bhp of power and 170Nm of torque. The SUV won’t be offered with a diesel powertrain. For transmission duties, the mini off-roader will get a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter. The SUV will also come equipped with Suzuki’s AllGrip all-wheel-drive system. The SUV is expected to offer better off-road capabilities, while the interior will see several modern features and improved material quality. It will also get Suzuki’s new SmartPlay infotainment system with smartphone connectivity options like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
