Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker will launch the Ciaz facelift and the new-gen Ertiga MPV before Diwali 2018. The Ciaz will first go on sale on August 20. What’s important is that both models will be equipped with a bigger capacity and more powerful petrol engine. Instead of existing 1.4-litre K-Series engine, the new models will get a newly developed 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine.
Not just Ciaz and Ertiga, this engine is also likely to be offered with Maruti’s popular existing models including S-Cross and Vitara Brezza. It is expected that the petrol version of these new models will be launched by the end of this year or early 2019. The Maruti S-Cross’s direct rivals – Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster – are available in both petrol and diesel avatars, while the S-Cross only comes with a diesel option. Adding to it, the S-Cross could also receive Suzuki’s micro-hybrid technology – SHVS. The upcoming Ciaz facelift will receive the 1.5L petrol engine in combination with SHVS mild-hybrid technology. The same combination could be offered in S-Cross and Vitara Brezza.
For people not in the know, Maruti Suzuki will also provide the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno hatch to Toyota. In fact, Toyota will also use the Suzuki’s new 1.5-litre petrol engine to power its models.
