Toyota’s Compact SUV and Hatchback, Based on Vitara & Baleno, Coming Soon

Maruti Suzuki will supply 30,000 – 50,000 units of the Baleno & Vitara Brezza to Toyota, and Toyota will provide 10,000 units of the Corolla Altis to Maruti.

What’s bigger news than a sub-4 meter SUV from Toyota in India? Yes, you read it right, Toyota will soon launch a sub-compact SUV in the Indian market. Not just a compact SUV, Japanese brand will also introduce a premium hatchback to challenge the likes of Hyundai Elite i20 , Maruti Baleno and Honda Jazz. What’s more interesting is that the new SUV and premium hatchback will be based on Maruti’s Vitara Brezza and Baleno. Yes, Maruti will soon provide its cars to Toyota.

Toyota and Maruti Suzuki signed a partnership last year in India. Both automakers will supply cars to each other to enter into segments they are already not present. While Toyota is struggling to gain momentum in the sub-4 meter category, Maruti is aiming to tap the premium segment. Toyota will also supply the Corolla Altis to MSIL. Similarly, Toyota will develop vehicles using Baleno and Vitara Brezza. Though it’s not official yet, we think that Toyota will restyle these cars to differentiate its products from the donor cars. It is expected that the Toyota’s version of Baleno and Vitara Brezza will come at slightly higher prices.

Maruti Suzuki will supply 30,000 to 50,000 units of the Baleno and Vitara Brezza to Toyota, and Toyota will provide 10,000 units of the next-gen Corolla Altis to Maruti. Besides this, Toyota and Maruti will also develop electric cars in India. Toyota is expected to supply electric and hybrid cars technology to Maruti, while Maruti will use technologies to develop eco-friendly cars at a much lower cost.
