The Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol version is likely to be powered by a 104bhp, 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine.

India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki has recently launched the 2018 Vitara Brezza with AMT option. It is expected that the petrol version of the compact SUV could also go on sale in near future. The Vitara Brezza’s direct rivals – Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport – are available in both petrol and diesel avatars, while the Brezza only comes with a diesel option.

Previous reports claim that the Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol version will get the Suzuki’s 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine that also powers the Baleno RS. This engine is capable of producing 100bhp of power and 150Nm of torque. It is basically a 3-cylinder turbocharged engine, which is comparatively expensive compared to the naturally aspirated models.

What’s interesting is that Maruti will soon introduce a new 1.5-litre petrol engine in the Ciaz facelift and new-gen Ertiga MPV. It is capable of producing 104bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. We believe that the Vitara Brezza petrol could feature this naturally aspirated 1500cc petrol engine. This will help the automaker to position the petrol Brezza well against the Nexon and EcoSport petrol variants. Adding to it, the Brezza could be first product in its category to feature micro-hybrid system. Reports claim that Maruti will offer the SHVS mild-hybrid technology in the Ciaz petrol and the same combination could also be offered with Brezza petrol.

Similar to the diesel AMT, Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol could also receive an AMT unit. The Brezza petrol AMT will directly rival the Nexon petrol AMT and EcoSport petrol Automatic. The company could also opt for a 4-speed torque convertor, as this transmission will also be offered with the Ciaz petrol automatic & Ertiga petrol automatic. On the other hand, Toyota will provide Corolla Altis sedan to Maruti Suzuki. India’s largest carmaker will launch a premium saloon based on the Corolla. Adding to it, the JV will also launch electric cars in India by 2020.
