To be launched in early 2017, the Maruti Ignis mini SUV will get a hybrid powertrain (SHVS) with an automatic transmission unit.

We informed you earlier that Maruti will launch the much-awaited Ignis mini SUV in India in early 2017. Unveiled at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, the mini SUV will be sold through NEXA outlets and will rival the Mahindra KUV100. It was speculated that the Maruti Ignis mini SUV will share its engine specs with the Baleno premium hatchback; however, recent reports suggest that the Ignis might get hybrid powertrain. The spotted model was not the top-end model, as it lacks projector headlamps and foglamps. It is likely to be a mid-level variant, equipped with 16-inch black alloy wheels, touchscreen entertainment system ad automatic climate control. The Ignis seen here in the pictures also has ‘Hybrid’ badges on the fenders and bootlid, indicating that it features Suzuki’s mild hybrid technology – SHVS along with added electrical assistance. Other features include a multi-functional steering wheel with controls for audio and bluetooth telephony, and instrument cluster with a multi-information display. The Maruti Ignis hybrid gets a black and beige interior scheme with contrasting Orange handle and central tunnel. It also gets an automatic transmission

The Maruti Ignis hybrid AT will be powered by a 1.3-litre MJD diesel engine with Suzuki’s mild hybrid technology. This engine is capable of producing 74bhp of power and 190Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. With SHVS technology, the Ignis hybrid should return over 27kmpl of mileage. The petrol version of the hatchback will be powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series unit that is capable of producing 83bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Ignis will be positioned below the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The crossover is 3,700mmm long, 1,660mm wide and 1,595mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,438mm. This mini SUV looks like a tall-boy hatchback with a ground clearance of 180mm, which is more than sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions. It offers an impressive luggage space of 258-litres, which can be increased up to 415-litres by folding the rear seats.
