Mahindra & Mahindra had launched its smallest SUV – the Mahindra KUV100 – in January 2016. Despite being projected as mini SUV, the vehicle’s profile looks more like a jagged up hatchback that is designed and developed for city commuters. Till now, the mini SUV do not have a direct competition in the market which is an advantage to India’s leading UV maker. However, the KUV100 will soon have a rival in the form of Ignis sub-compact crossover/SUV. Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch this compact SUV in the country on January 13, 2017. Maruti Ignis Vs Mahindra KUV100 – Engine Specifications
The KUV100 sub-compact SUV is available with an all-new petrol and diesel engines developed under the company’s new ‘mFalcon’ range of engines. While the 1.2-litre petrol G80 mFalcon engine is capable of producing 82bhp of power along with 114Nm of torque, the oil burner is a 1.2-litre D75 mFalcon turbocharged common-rail unit that is good for 77bhp and 190Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the vehicle’s front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Like the KUV100, the Ignis crossover will also come with two engine options – a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and a 1.3-litre MJD diesel. The gasoline version is capable of producing 84bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. On the other hand, the oil burner is good for 73.8bhp of power and 190Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) unit.

Maruti Ignis Vs Mahindra KUV100 – Mileage
The petrol version of the KUV100 sub-compact SUV is claimed to return 18.23kmpl, while the diesel-powered model delivers an impressive 25.32kmpl (ARAI certified fuel efficiency). Like the Baleno, the Ignis is expected to be highly fuel efficient. We expect the sub-compact SUV could return around 20kmpl and 26kmpl from petrol and diesel versions, respectively.

The Mahindra KUV100 sub-compact SUV is priced at INR 4.56 lakh for the base petrol and INR 6.11 lakh for top-end petrol version. The diesel version is priced in the range of INR 5.41 lakh to INR 7.02 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
The Ignis will be sold through Maruti Suzuki’s premium dealership network – NEXA. To be positioned below the Vitara Brezza, the sub-compact SUV is expected to be priced in the range of INR 5 lakh – INR 7 lakh.

Maruti Ignis Vs Mahindra KUV100 – Dimensions
The KUV100 is based on the monocoque front-wheel drive platform, and it is also the second M&M product based on this platform. The first product was the Mahindra XUV500. The small car measures 3,675mm in length, 1,635mm in height and 1,715mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 2,385mm. It comes with a ground clearance of 170mm, which is good to tackle city roads. The mini SUV has a boot space of 243-litres, which can be extended up to 473-litres by folding the rear seats.
Based on the Suzuki’s new generation platform, the new Ignis is 3,700mm long, 1,660mm wide and 1,595mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,438mm. It comes with a ground clearance of 180mm, which is 10mm more than the KUV100. The mini SUV has a ground clearance of 258-litres, which can be extended by up to 415-litres.

Maruti Ignis Vs Mahindra KUV100 – Features
The KUV100 mini SUV is available in four trim levels – K2, K4, K6 and the K8. The base variant is equipped with tilt adjustable power steering, air conditioning, ABS with EBD, gear indicator, roof spoiler and 14-inch steel wheels. On the other hand, the range-topping variant gets chrome enclosure for fog lamps, doors with puddle lamps, alloys and daytime running lamps. It also has Mahindra’s Micro Hybrid technology.
On the other hand, the Ignis compact SUV gets projector headlamps, power foldable & adjustable ORVMs, tailgate mounted spoiler, turn indicators, rear windscreen and a conventional bumper with black insert. Inside the cabin, the vehicle will get Suzuki’s Smartplay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth-enabled audio system, automatic climate control, regenerative braking, and keyless entry with engine start/stop button and heated front seats.
