2017 Skoda Kodiaq 7 seater SUV India

Skoda’s upcoming 7-seater SUV – Kodiaq – shares its engine with the Volkswagen Tiguan SUV.

The Czech Republic carmaker is doing final preparations to bring in its first ever 7-seater SUV – Skoda Kodiaq in India. While the launch of the vehicle is slated to happen next month, the technical details of the SUV have been leaked on the web. Good folks at teambhp have managed to get their hands on the brochure scan of the upcoming Kodiaq.

The leaked scan confirms that the India-spec Kodiaq will feature a 2.0litre TDI diesel engine linked to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. It’s the same powertrain that does duty in the Volkswagen Tiguan SUV. The torque output of this motor is similar to the Tiguan – i.e. 340Nm at 1,750rpm – 3,000rpm. Though, the power figure is slightly higher. Read: 5 Things To Know About Kodiaq

While the Tiguan delivers a maximum power of 141bhp, the Kodiaq will be capable to offer 148bhp (150PS) between 3,400rpm – 4,000rpm. That means, Skoda’s 7-seater will be 7bhp more powerful than its cousin. On fuel efficiency ground, the Kodiaq is slightly behind the Tiguan. Volkswagen’s SUV returns an ARAI fuel economy of 17.06kmpl, and the new SUV from Skoda will provide a mileage of 16.25kmpl. Read: Skoda Kodiaq Vs Toyota Fortuner

Dimensions of the SUV have also been revealed via leaked scan. The Kodiaq is longer, wider and taller than the Tiguan. In fact, it sits on 114mm bigger wheelbase as well. It measures 4,697mm in length, 1,882mm in width, 1,676mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,791mm. The SUV has ground clearance of 140mm, thus making it 9mm lower than the VW Tiguan. Skoda’s upcoming 7-seater SUV offers a storage capacity of 270-litres, and 2005-litres with rear seatback folded down. Since the Kodiaq has an additional third row of seats, its boot space measures 345-litres less than the Tiguan. Volkswagen’s SUV has a luggage capacity of 615-litres that can be expanded up to 1,665-litres by folding rear seats.
