Skoda India is on a launch spree and the next model in pipeline is its highly anticipated seven-seat SUV, Kodiaq. Set for launch in September this year, Kodiaq could turn out to be a game changer for the Czech car giant, who failed miserably with its compact model, Yeti. Skoda’s First ever seven-seat SUV

While we know demand for SUVs has grown many folds in the last couple of years, Skoda who earlier grappled with its Yeti model is now all set to tap into the highly competitive premium SUV space with Kodiaq. Interestingly, Kodiaq is the first ever seven-seat model produced by Skoda ever since the brand was established, which makes it a special car for Skoda globally.

Gets raft of features

The India-bound Kodiaq will be armed to the teeth with a host of comfort & safety bits. It will get Skoda’s new Connect touchscreen unit with on-board Wi-Fi, Google Earth, smartphone connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto etc. In addition, it will pack in hands-free tailgate operation, umbrella tucked inside doors, dual-zone automatic climate control, start-stop button mounted on steering wheel and power-operated driver & co-passenger seats. It will get 2.0L petrol and diesel engines

Power on the Skoda Kodiaq carline will be sourced from the 2.0L, 4-cylinder petrol and 2.0L TDI unit. The 2.0L petrol unit will make 177bhp against 320 Nm whereas the diesel unit is good for 150bhp with 340Nm torque. Transmission options will include a 7-speed DSG gearbox supported by an AWD system.

It gets a spacious cabin

To make the cabin snug, Kodiaq gets power-operated seats in front and 60:40 split seats at rear with reclining and sliding functions. It additionally comes with ‘sleeping headrests’ with fold-out wings. The 2,791mm long wheelbase carves out comfortable space for passengers in front and second row, whereas the third row is appropriate for kids.

Launch Around the corner

Skoda will launch the all-new Kodiaq in India sometime this month. As for the pricing, the seven-seat SUV is estimated to start from Rs 28 lakh and the fully-loaded top-spec variant is likely to be available at Rs 35 lakh. In the segment, the new Kodiaq will compete with Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Hyundai Santa Fe and Volkswagen Tiguan.
