The new Hyundai Venue is priced between Rs 6.50 lakh and Rs 11.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Pan India)

The much-awaited Hyundai Venue compact has finally been launched in the Indian market. The SUV is available in the 4 trim levels – E, S, SX and SX+ – priced between Rs 6.50 lakh and Rs 11.10 lakh. Measuring under 4 meter in length, the Venue directly challenge the likes of Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and the higher variants of the Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon. It is claimed to be the most advanced and feature-loaded SUV in its category. The SUV is fitted with Hyundai BlueLink Technology that offers 33 connected car applications out of which 10 are India specific. It is also equipped with several segment-first features including wireless charger, air purifier, projector fog lamps, wheel air curtains, etc.

The new Hyundai Venue is based on the Carlino concept, which was first unveiled at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. Styling of the new Venue is inspired by the bigger Hyundai SUVs like Kona and Santa Fe. It features the signature hexagonal cascade grille and the brand’s new two-tier headlight set-up. The cabin is equipped with several premium features like an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, multi-functional steering wheel automatic climate control, electric sunroof and others. The sub-4 meter SUV also mark the debut of brand’s new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and new 7-speed Dual-clutch transmission. Other engines include a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel. A six-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels is available as standard.

The sub-4 meter SUV is available in 4 trim levels – E, S, SX and SX(O) – and in total of 11 variants. The petrol version of the SUV is available in the price range of Rs 6.50 lakh – Rs 11.10 lakh. On the other hand, the diesel Venue is priced at Rs 7.75 lakh for the base model and Rs 10.84 lakh for the top-end model.

The Hyundai Venue is available with 3 engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder Kappa T-GDI turbocharged petrol, a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder Kappa naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel. This sub-4 meter SUV marks the debut of brand’s new 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that currently powers the global-spec i20 hatchback. This powertrain is capable of producing 118bhp of power and 172Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and a 6-speed manual. It is also the only model in its category to feature the dual-clutch automatic gearbox option.

The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is the same unit that powers the Elite i20 and the Grand i10. Paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, this powertrain is capable of producing 82bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. The 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel is the same powertrain that currently powers the Verna sedan and the entry-level Creta SUV. This engine is capable of producing 89bhp of power and 220Nm of torque. Hyundai Venue Safety Features

The new sub-4 meter SUV is loaded with several high-end safety and security features. It comes equipped with six airbags (top-end model), speed sensing automatic door lock, ESC/ESP (Electronic Stability Program), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), HAC (Hill Assist Control), BAS (Brake Assist System) and ISOFIX. Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, seat belt reminder, speed sensing door locks, central locking and reverse parking sensor are available as standard.

The SUV also comes equipped with Hyundai BlueLink connected car technology, which offers Automatic Crash Notification and Assistance, SOS Emergency Assistance and Roadside Assistance. Other features include Emergency Alerts, Medical and Panic Assistance, Geo-fence, which will send a text alert if the driver has ventured outside prescribed geographical location or time; and stolen vehicle notification and vehicle immobilization.

The Venue sub-4 meter SUV was first previewed as the Carlino concept at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. While the concept was based on the i20 platform, the production version of the SUV is based on the Santro’s platform. The SUV shares styling cues from bigger HYundai SUVs including Santa Fe, Palisade and Kona. Upfront is a signature hexagonal cascade grille with squarish face, which is flanked by a twin-vertical layout with LED daytime running lights and turn indicators on the top and main headlight unit on the lower end of the bumper. The big front bumper accommodates air-intake and faux silver skid plate. The side profile gives an impression of squeezed Creta, featuring flared wheel arches with peripheral cladding. The SUV rides on machine cut alloy wheels, which seems identical to the one available in the international-spec Kona SUV. It features sloping C-pillar and Creta-inspired tail-gate, which should enable Hyundai to create more space inside the cabin.

The Venue is positioned under the 4 meter in length. In terms of proportions, the new Hyundai Venue is 3,995mm in length, 1,770mm in width and 1,590mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,500rpm. Its closest rival Mahindra XUV300 is 51mm wider, 37mm taller and has 100mm longer wheelbase. The SUV offers a boot space of 350-litres.

The Hyundai Venue comes with all-new interior, which is premium and feature-loaded. The SUV gets all-black interior scheme for the smartly designed dashboard. It features a large, free-standing touchscreen infotainment system at the top of the centre console. The touchscreen is flanked by central air-conditioning vents in rectangular shape with chrome surround. The SUV is equipped with features like push button start, automatic climate control, multi-functional steering wheel and rear AC vents. It sports premium upholstery for the seats, steering wheel and gear knobs. The SUV also gets rake and reach adjust for the steering. Some of the comfort and convenience features include electric sunroof, cruise control, air purifier, wireless charger, voice recognition, arkamys sound, rear AC vents, cornering lamps and glove box cooling.

The Hyundai Venue is equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink. It also turns into a display for reverse camera and navigation. This is the first car in its category to offer built-in advanced connected technologies. The SUV is fitted with the most advanced Connectivity solution – ‘Hyundai BlueLink’, which offers 33 features out of which 10 would be India specific.

The SOS (Save Our Souls), Road Side Assistance and BlueLink button are on the Inside Rear View Mirror (IRVM) for easy accessibility. It also provides first in industry safety features like Vehicle Theft Tracking and Immobilization for recovery of stolen vehicles. Other features include the Speed Alert, Geo Fence Alert, Panic Notification and Share Destination. The remote control functions like Engine Start/Stop, Climate Control, Door Lock/Unlock, Horn Honk & Light and Vehicle Status will further improve the driving experience of the Indian customers.

Hyundai Venue Competition

With this SUV, Hyundai enters into the fast growing sub-4 meter SUV category. This segment is currently dominated by Maruti Vitara Brezza, which is doing around 13,000 sales per month. Other major players in this category are Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV300. This segment will also witness the entry of few new brands including Honda and Kia Motors.
