Hyundai Palisade Gets 5-Star Safety Rating In NHTSA Crash Test

In the latest round of crash tests by NHTSA (National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration), the Hyundai Palisade has secured a 5-star safety rating. The SUV’s FWD (front-wheel-drive) and AWD (all-wheel-drive) models have achieved the top rating in both frontal and side crash tests. In the rollover resistance test, the vehicle managed to score 4 star safety rating.

The tested model was equipped with several advanced safety features such as forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, lane following assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, high beam assist, safe exit assist, smart cruise control with stop and go and driver attention warning.

The Hyundai Palisade gets rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist (RCCA) as standard safety fitment. It uses the blind spot detection system’s radar sensors while reversing the vehicle and warns the driver if any vehicle approach from the rear side. The system can automatically apply the brakes. The SUV also comes with rear occupant alert (ROA) that monitors and detects movement of the rear seat passenger by using an ultrasonic sensor. If ROA system senses movement in the rear seats when the doors are locked or the driver leaves the vehicle, it send a BlueLink alert to the driver’s smartphone through Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car technology and honk the horn. Features such as multiple airbags, tyre pressure monitoring with individual position display, three latch anchors in the second row and two latch anchors in the third row, electronic child safety lock, optional safe exit assist system and a rear view camera are also on offer.

First previewed at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Hyundai Palisade is offered with a 3.8L V6 direct injection petrol and a 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine option. The gasoline motor makes 291bhp with 355Nm and the oil burner delivers 200bhp with 441Nm. Both motors are paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox with a multiplate torque convertor.
