New Honda Jazz Electric In The Works; To Offer 300km Range – Report

Japanese automaker, Honda is working on an all-new electric powered Jazz hatchback, which is called the Fit in select international markets. What’s more exciting is that the Honda Jazz Electric will have a battery range of 300 kilometers. The reports further claims that the Jazz Electric will be priced aggressively around US$ 18,000 (Approximately Rs 13 lakh), which will make it a lot cheaper than several electric hatchbacks including Nissan Leaf. It is expected that Honda Jazz Electric will first go on sale in the Chinese market. Following the global trends, China is also betting big on electric cars. Most of the global makers have already started making electric vehicles in China and Honda is the latest automaker set to introduce the electric Jazz as affordable and high-range EV. Similar to China, Indian government is also pushing for electric vehicles. The government is offering subsidies and duty cuts on import of batteries. In fact, manufacturing of batteries have already been started in India. Seeing the growing demand for EVs, Honda may launch the Jazz Electric for the Indian market in near future. Just to jog your memory, Honda had launched the facelifted Fit/Jazz in the foreign markets last year. It is expected that Honda Jazz electric will be offered with the next-generation model, which is likely to arrive in 2020. Japanese automaker had showcased the Honda Fit EV concept at the 2010 LA Auto Show, followed by production model at the 2011 LA Auto Show. This model is equipped with an electric motor producing 125PS of power and 256Nm of torque. It was equipped with a Toshiba-sourced 20 kWh Lithium-Ion battery that offered a range of 225km on a full charge.
