Honda Brio Electric In The Works?

The new Honda electric car will be developed on upgraded Brio’s platform.

Seeing the growing attention for electric vehicles, globally renowned automakers are now planning to locally develop electric cars in the country. We informed you earlier that Toyota and Suzuki has join hands to produce electric vehicles in the country. In fact, MSI will start production of electric cars at its production facility in Sanand, Gujarat. If media reports are to be believed, Honda is also planning to launch an electric vehicle in the country. Adding to it, the first Honda EV for India will be developed on modified Honda Brio’s platform.

Japanese automaker has already started working on the next-gen Honda Brio, which is likely to be based on the upgraded version of the existing platform. This platform will also support an electric powertrain. Jnaneswar Sen, Senior VP, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India has revealed that the company has already started working on the EV strategy for the Indian market. Report further suggests that Honda Car Indi is yet to finalise the type of EVs to be developed. The parent company is also involved in chalking out the strategy for our market. Honda had unveiled the Urban EV concept, and an EV based on this concept will go on sale in Europe and Japan by 2019 and 2020 respectively. Adding to it, Honda is also planning to set up a lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant in India. Honda Cars India board meeting recently discussed the type of EV and production plant for lithium-ion battery. The report further suggests that Honda could soon reveal its EV plans.
