Mahindra XUV500 Next-gen

The next generation Mahindra XUV500 is likely to make global debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Mahindra is working on a range of new SUVs, which also includes next-generation models of existing SUVs, for the Indian market. The company will introduce the new-gen Thar and Bolero in the end of 2019 or early 2020, which will be followed by the new gen XUV500 and Scorpio. It is expected that the next-generation Mahindra XUV500 will make global debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.

It will be based on an all-new monocoque chassis, which will also be used by Ford to develop a C-segment SUV for Indian market. The next-gen XUV500 will be longer and more spacious than the outgoing model. It will also receive several segment-leading features to compete against the growing competition. Mahindra is also developing an all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine that will also power the next-gen Thar. This engine will be available in multiple states of tunes. While powering the Thar, this engine is expected to produce around 140bhp of power and over 300Nm of torque. Media reports claim that the new-gen XUV500 will receive the 2.0-litre that offers about 180bhp of power, which makes it the most powerful in its category. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer. Seeing the growing demand for petrol cars, Mahindra could launch the next-gen XUV500 with petrol engine as well. Mahindra and SsangYong together developed a range of new petrol engines for their respective models, ranging from 1.2-litre to 2.0-litre.

The next-gen Mahindra XUV500 is expected to be launched in the second half of 2020. It will be designed by Mahindra’s design studios and famous Italian design house Pininfarina. The SUV will challenge the likes of Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, next-gen Hyundai Creta and the upcoming MG Hector SUV.
