7 Upcoming Tata Cars in 2023 – Facelifts, Special Editions, EV

Tata Motors has already commenced bookings for the Altroz CNG and the updated Harrier and Safari SUVs. While the former is likely to go on sale next month (May), the latter two models are expected to arrive just before 2023 festive season (possibly by October). The Tata Nexon facelift is also in its final testing phase and reported to hit showrooms by August. The company will also bring in the Tata Altroz Racer Edition and Tata Punch EV in the second of the year. Let’s take a look at key details of the upcoming Tata cars.

Tata Altroz CNG

Tata Altroz CNG Launch

The CNG version of the Altroz hatchback will come in four trims – XE, XM+, XZ and XZ+. For power, all variants use a 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine paired to the new twin-cylinder CNG kit. In CNG mode, the setup offers a maximum power of 77bhp and 97Nm of torque. Transmission duties are performed by a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Tata Altroz CNG has two 30-litre tanks, placed under the boot floor that ensures enough boot space. The model carries an ‘iCNG’ badge on the tailgate. Tata Nexon Facelift

Tata’s top-selling SUV – Nexon – will receive heavy cosmetic and feature upgrades in coming months. The subcompact SUV will have design changes and interior inspired by the Currv concept that was showcased at this year’s Auto Expo. Inside, there will be a new two-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel with control buttons, revised centre console with touch panel and toggle switches for the HVAC control, new digital instrument cluster and new purple seat upholstery. Under the hood, there will be a new 1.2L turbo petrol engine making 125bhp and 225Nm. It will also be available with a 1.5L diesel engine as well. More details here…

Tata Punch CNG

The Tata Punch CNG was first showcased alongside the Altroz CNG at the 2023 Auto Expo. Similar to the Altroz CNG, it features a 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine with a twin-cylinder CNG setup. The micro SUV’s CNG version will be offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The power and torque figures of the CNG mini SUV stand at 77bhp and 97Nm respectively, thus making it slightly less powerful and torqueier than the regular petrol model. It has two large 60-litre CNG tanks fitted under the boot floor. In term of design, the Punch CNG has ‘iCNG’ badge that sets it apart from its petrol counterpart. More details here…

Tata Altroz Racer Launch

Previewed at the 2023 Auto Expo, the Tata Altroz Racer Edition is the sportier and more powerful version of the hatchback. The model features a new 10.25-inch touchscreen that will also be offered on the updated Harrier and Safari SUVs. It also gets a new digital instrument cluster and electrically adjustable sunroof with voice assist. The hatchback has all-black treatment along with a few sporty design bits. The biggest talking point of the Altroz Racer is its 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine that’s tuned for generating power worth 120bhp and 170Nm of torque. The heavily updated versions of the Tata Harrier and Safari SUVs will come just ahead of 2023 festive season. Both models receive a new 10.25-inch infotainment system that’s claimed to have better user interface. The SUVs are likely to come with a revised dashboard, new interior theme and textures. Reports suggest that the carmaker might offer the 2023 Tata Harrier and Safari facelifts with a new 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine. The motor, which was showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, makes a top power of 170bhp and 280Nm of torque. Both SUVs’ updated model are reported to entre into production from September 2023. While the carmaker hasn’t yet confirmed its launch timeline, the Tata Punch EV is rumoured to arrive towards the end of this year. It’s surely one of the much-awaited upcoming Tata cars in the country. The Punch electric will underpin the new Sigma architecture, which is essentially a heavily updated Alfa platform. Powertrain setup of the electric micro SUV could be borrowed from Tata’s existing EVs. The latter come with a permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering power to the front wheels. The carmaker is likely to offer the EV in multiple variants and battery pack options. On the exterior, the micro SUV will get some EV-specific elements. More details here…
