The homegrown automaker, Tata Motors is currently at the third position in the list of top car manufacturers of the country. The major reason behind this success is the huge popularity of the Tata Nexon compact SUV. The Nexon was the top selling SUV in the financial year 2022-23. The SUV manages to beat many heavyweights including the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and the Kia Seltos.

Tata Motors sold 1,72,138 units of the Nexon compact SUV in the financial year 2023, averaging around 14300 units of sales per month. What’s more interesting is that the SUV reported a YoY sales growth of over 38 percent, which is quite rare when a product is almost 5-6 years old in the market.
The Hyundai Creta is at second position with 1,50,372 units sold in the last financial year. The SUV reported a YoY sales growth of 27.33 percent. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is at third position with 1,45,665 units sold in FY23. Thanks to new model, the Maruti Brezza sales increased by 28.06 per cent (YoY).
Tata Motors’ smallest SUV, the Punch micro SUV has also received an overwhelming response from car buyers in the country. The company sold 1,33,819 units of the Punch in the last financial year, reporting a YoY sales growth of 153.8 percent. The Hyundai Venue is at the 5th position with 1,20,653 units sold in FY23. The small SUV also reported a YoY sales growth of 14.8 percent.
Tata Motors has recently introduced the Dark Editions of the Nexon and the Nexon electric in the country. Moreover, the company has started testing the new Nexon compact SUV on the Indian roads. The new model will receive significantly revised design and an all-new cabin. The SUV will also receive a new 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine that produces 125PS and 225Nm of torque.
