Upcoming Tata Punch EV – All Key Facts We Know So Far

At this year’s Auto Expo, Tata Motors will showcase its three new electric cars including the Punch EV, Curvv and Avinya concepts. The company will also unveil its ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) technology at the mega automotive event. While the official launch timeline of the Tata Punch EV is yet to be revealed, the reports suggest it might enter into production around June 2023. The final production version of the electric mini SUV will go on sale around 2023 festive season.

Here’re some key details of the upcoming new Tata Punch electric SUV that we know so far.

The electric mini SUV will be designed on a new Sigma platform that’s essentially a heavily modified version of the Alfa architecture. It will be optimized for electrification. The new Sigma platform (also called Gen 2) will be capable to accommodate a large battery pack and miss out on the transmission tunnel. Compared to the ICE to EV converted vehicles (such as Nexon, Tiago and Tigor), the Gen 2 architecture is expected to be lightweight, more spacious and efficient.

Powertrain details of the upcoming Tata Punch EV are still under the wraps. Though, it’s expected to come with the Tata’s Ziptroen technology that includes a permanent magnet synchronous motor and a battery pack. Similar to the Nexon, the electric mini SUV might be offered with multiple battery pack options. Rumour has it that the Punch electric could get a 26kWh (borrowed from the Tiago EV) and a 30.2kWh (sourced from the Nexon EV) battery pack.

A few changes will be made to its exterior, thus differentiating it from the ICE-powered Punch. The model might feature a closed-off grille, tweaked front and rear bumpers, newly-designed wheels and coloured accents. Interior will also receive some EV-specific changes.

As far as pricing is concerned, the new Tata Punch EV is likely to cost around Rs 1 lakh – Rs 1.50 lakh higher than its ICE-powered counterpart. More details will be revealed in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
