To commemorate its 115th Anniversary year, Harley-Davidson has introduced the 2018 Softail line up in the Indian market. The new Softail range includes four models – all-new Fat Bob, Fat Boy, Street Bob and Heritage Classic – priced at Rs 13.99 lakh, Rs 17.49 lakh, Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 18.99 lakh (all, ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. The 2018 Softail range cruiser come with all-new Milwaukee Eight engines and new chassis. The company claims that all four new Softail models combine the hard-riding performance of the Dyna line and unparalleled custom look of the Softail line.
While the Fat Bob and Fat Boy motorcycles belong to the Revolutionary Design category, the Street Bob and Heritage Classis sit in the Modern Classics and Foundational Standards categories respectively. Out of all these, the 2018 Harley Davidson Fat Bob stands out with its highly masculine and bold appeal. 2018 Harley Davidson Fat Bob Price in India
Loaded with new features, body graphics and updated mechanism, the 2018 Fat Bob has been made available at Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This makes it around Rs 47 more expensive than the old model. At this price, the new Harley bike will go up against the Triumph Thunderbird Strom.
2018 Harley Davidson Fat Bob Specifications
All 2018 Softtail motorcycles (including Fat Bob) derive their power from the new 1745cc, 8-valve Milwaukee Eight, oil-cooled V-Twin engine, which is 24Nm torquier than before. The torque output of this new V-twin motor stands at 145Nm at 3000rpm. The powertrain is benefited with dual counter balancers that cancel out primary vibrations and improve chassis rigidity. The frame stiffness further enhances the overall handling of the bike. The new V-twin engine is claimed to be 10% faster to 100kmph than the current model that uses Twin Cam 103 unit. 2018 Harley Davidson Fat Bob Design
The new 2018 Fat Bob has been designed on the new steel tubular frame, which is 65% stiffer than before. This new architecture uses 50% less components and has 22% less welds, thus making it lighter and stiffer. Compared to the previous model, the new Fat Bob has shed 15kgs of extra flab. The 2018 Fat Bob comes fitted with Harley-Davidson’s largest 16-inch front wheels with 150-80 section tyres and 180/70 rear section tyres. The bike also gets 2-1-2 upswept performance exhaust with custom finish.

The new Softtail range features Showa Dual Bending Valve (SDBV) forks, which was first used on Harley’s FL touring range previous year. The new Fat Bob features 43mm inverted forks with SDBV technology that contributes in reducing the weight. The updated suspension mechanism is claimed to improve overall riding comfort and handling of the motorcycle. It offers more wheel travel and spring preload adjustment range. At the rear axle, the bike gets an under-seat monoshock unit. Braking duties on the bike are taken care of by dual disc front brakes.
