Kia’s First Car To Launch In April 2019 – Report
The Andhra Pradesh plant is Kia’s one of the biggest production facilities globally.
Kia Motors has fast-tracked its Indian operations, and is planning to launch its first product in April, 2019. Earlier, it was scheduled to happen in July or early August, 2019. According to a fresh report, the masonry construction of Kia’s manufacturing plant in Yerramanchi village at Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh has already been completed and the company will install machinery and equipment in coming months. The carmaker has already made an investment of $1.1 billion in its Andhra Pradesh facility. The company aims to spend a total of $2 billion in India by 2021 and create over 10,000 jobs. Kia’s first plant in India includes powertrain shop, body shop, engine shop, seat shop, paint shop, utility ventre and assembly unit. It has an annual production capacity of 300,000 units that will be further expanded to 100,000 more in near future. Kia SP Concept Picture Gallery
The first product to roll out from Kia’s stable will be a compact SUV based on the SP concept that broke cover at the 2018 Auto Expo. The production version of the SUV could be christened as Kia Tusker. The report further claims that official bookings of the compact SUV will be commenced by the end of March, 2019. Though, the deliveries will begin in late May, 2019.
Besides the Kia Tusker, the Korean carmaker will foray into the premium hatchback and compact sedan segments with the Kia Rio. The company also aims to tap the MPV space with its gigantic Kia Grand Carnival. The Kia Sportage SUV is also likely to make its way to India. If launch, it will be put up against the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson.
