Volkswagen Ameo is the most affordable offering from the German carmaker in India. The sub-compact sedan was launched with a petrol engine spread across three variants – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline – in June 2016. VW added the new range-topping Highline Plus variant to the carline earlier this year. Aiming to boost its sales, Volkswagen introduced the accessorised Ameo Crest and the Ameo Anniversary Editions in December 2016 and September 2017 respectively.
Now, the company is planning to introduce the ‘Sport’ Edition of the sedan. Called the Volkswagen Ameo Sport, the special edition recently caught on camera during its test rounds. Volkswagen Ameo Sport Edition Spy Pictures
Visually, the Volkswagen Ameo Sport Edition will look slightly different from the standard Ameo. This new model will feature new body graphics, a blacked out roof, blackened alloy wheels, black garnish on the boot lid and black lip spoiler. There will be decals on the bottom of the doors. The test mule was petrol version of the sedan. Though, the Volkswagen Ameo Sport Edition could be offered with both petrol and diesel powertrain options. Currently, the petrol Ameo uses the 1.2 –litre, three-cylinder MPI gasoline motor that makes 73bhp of power against 110Nm of torque. On the other hand, the diesel variants are propelled by a 1.5-litre TDI unit developing 108bhp with 250Nm of torque. While a 5-speed manual gearbox is offered only on the petrol model, Volkswagen’s tried and tested 7-speed DSG unit is available on the diesel version. The Volkswagen Ameo Sport Edition price in India is likely to be slightly higher than the standard model. This new version will be positioned against the Ford Aspire Sport. The Volkswagen Ameo Sport Edition launch might happen in January next year. Though, no official word has been made on the same.
