Volkswagen, the German premium carmaker had unveiled the new generation Polo hatchback and the Polo based mid-sized sedan – Virtus. The company is also working on a Polo based compact SUV, which is scheduled to make its global debut in 2018. The vehicle is likely to carry the T-Cross badge, which was unveiled last year in concept form. Autoexpress has released a couple of renderings of the SUV, suggesting the possible design. Few media reportss suggest that Volkswagen is considering this SUV for Indian market and the launch could happen in 2019. Also See – Volkswagen T-Cross – All You Need To Know
Going by the renderings, it is visible that the Polo SUV will share most of its styling cues from the larger T-ROC. The SUV will get a full-width grille and flared wheel arches for sportier look. It will have raised ride-height and increased ground clearance. The SUV will be developed on VW Group’s MQB-A0 platform that also underpins the Polo and Virtus. The SUV will be powered by a 109bhp, 1.0-litre 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine. Dual-clutch automatic and manual gearbox will be on offer.

The report further suggests that the SUV is likely to feature 2,560mm of wheelbase, which is around 90mm more than the previous Polo hatchback. The new model will offer spacious cabin for both front and rear occupants. Volkswagen has already started testing the compact SUV, indicating an early 2018 launch. The T-Cross Breeze concept was a 2-door convertible SUV; however, the production-ready model will be a conventional 5-door model and will get a fixed roof. While the T-ROC has a sporty coupe-like profile, the smaller model will have a conventional SUV-like stance. In India, the T-Cross will rival the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.
