Upcoming Honda Cars With New 1.6-litre i-DTEC Diesel Engine

Honda HR-V 2018 Model

The new generation Honda CR-V, new Civic sedan and a 5-seater premium SUV – HR-V are likely to get the new 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine

The first Honda diesel model in India – Amaze – was first arrived in 2012. With this compact sedan, Honda introduced a highly fuel efficient and powerful 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine. After Amaze, this engine was introduced in City and Jazz in 2013 and 2015 respectively. However, Honda had to discontinue its popular Civic brand due to lack of diesel engine and low petrol demand. Now, Honda has a new 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine which can power the brand’s bigger cars in India.

In fact, Honda has already started manufacturing this 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine at its Tapukara based plant in Rajasthan. Most of the components in this engine are locally sourced, which makes it affordable as well. This powertrain is currently been exported to select international markets.

Honda will soon launch a range of new cars in India that will be powered by the 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine. The first model to receive this new powertrain is the new-generation CR-V, which made its India debut at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. The 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine is available with two states of tunes – 158bhp with 350Nm and 120bhp with 300Nm. The India-spec model will get the less powerful model, which helps Honda to achieve competitive pricing. The more powerful engine comes with twin-turbocharger, while the standard unit gets a single turbocharger. The new CR-V 7-seater model will go on sale during Diwali, 2018.

Next model to receive this new engine is the long-awaited new-generation Civic sedan. The company had discontinued the 8th generation model in 2013 and didn’t launch the 9th generation model in India. Now, the company is gearing up for the launch of 10th gen Civic in the country. Like the CR-V, the new Honda Civic was previewed to Indian audience at the Auto Expo 2018. The new model will be launched in the first quarter of 2019. Honda 5-seater premium SUV (HR-V)

Japanese automaker is working on two new SUVs – a sub-4 meter to challenge Vitara Brezza and a 5-seater premium SUV to rival Hyundai Creta – for Indian market. Since the new CR-V is a 7-seater model, there will be a huge gap between the sub-4 meter SUV and CR-V. In a bid to mark some presence in the growing 5-seater premium SUV segment, Honda is considering its global SUV – HRV/Vezel – for India. The company could also opt for an all-new SUV, which could use the new Amaze platform. The HR-V is based on the Jazz platform, which could make it a bit expensive for the price sensitive Indian market. The company could use the Amaze platform to develop an all-new SUV, which might share the design with HR-V. This model will be powered by 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine.
