Upcoming Electric SUVs In India – Top 10

Here’s a list of upcoming new electric SUVs in the Indian market in the next 2 years –

1. MG ZS EV Facelift

2022 MG ZS EV Launch

MG Motors will launch the updated version of the MG ZS EV in the country in February 2022. The new model will receive significant changes inside and outside along with a bigger battery pack. The SUV is likely to get a new 51kWh battery pack that will offer a range around 480km. The SUV will also source some of its features including a bigger touchscreen, instrument console and others with the Astor SUV.

2. Volvo XC40 Recharge

Swedish automaker, Volvo will launch the XC40 Recharge SUV in the country in 2022. The Volvo XC40 Recharge will be a part of the brand’s plan to double its sales volume in India with electric and petrol vehicles. It gets a 78kWh lithium-ion battery and two 204bhp electric motors simulating permanent (all-wheel-drive) system. The combined power and torque outputs stand at 408bhp and 660Nm. The electric SUV can do 0 to 100kmph in 4.9 seconds and attain a top speed of 180kmph. The battery pack can be charged up to 80 percent in 40 minutes via DC fast charger. The electric SUV offers a WLTP-certified range of 418km on a full charge.

3. 2022 Tata Nexon EV

Tata Motors will give a mid-life update to the Nexon electric SUV in 2022. The new model will receive some design changes and feature upgrades. Moreover, the SUV will also get a new variant with a larger 40kWh battery pack. It is estimated to offer a maximum range of around 400km on a single charge.

4. Hyundai Kona EV Facelift

Hyundai will introduce the facelifted Kona EV in the country in 2022. The new model will receive subtle design changes and feature updates. The SUV will receive a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, updated BlueLink connected car tech, blindspot assistance, safe exit warning and more. The new Kona will come with the 39.2kWh battery and 136bhp electric motor. The automaker might also introduce the larger battery with the Kona facelift. 

5. New Tata Coupe SUV EV

Tata Motors is also working on an all-new electric coupe version of the Nexon compact SUV. This model will be based on the X1 platform that underpins the current Nexon EV. Likely to measure around 4.3 meters in length, the new Coupe SUV will be offered with an electric powertrain as well as petrol & diesel fuel options. The electric version is likely to receive a 40kWh battery pack with a range closer to 400kms.

6. Tata Punch EV

Tata Motors is working on an electrified version of the Punch micro SUV. The new model is based on the ALFA modular platform that is compatible with different powertrains including ICE, hybrid and pure electric. The Punch EV is expected to feature the updated version of the brand’s Ziptron powertrain technology. It is expected to deliver a range of over 300kms.

7. Mahindra e-KUV100

Mahindra will launch the eKUV100 micro SUV in the next few months. Unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo, the micro EV features a 15.9kWh battery pack that powers an electric motor. The electric motor produces 54.4bhp (40kW) and 120Nm of torque. Using regular charger, the battery can be charged to 100% in 5 hr 45min. The battery can achieve 80% charging in 55min using a fast charger. The vehicle is claimed to offer a range of up to 150km; however, Mahindra is working on upgrading the battery to achieve higher range.

8. Mahindra XUV300 Electric (XUV400)

Mahindra will launch the production version of the XUV300 electric in the country in 2023. It is rumoured to be called the new Mahindra XUV400. It is the first model based on Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA) platform. This model was equipped with a 350V powertrain, which is expected to be joined by a more powerful 380V powertrain. While the lower-spec model will rival the Nexon EV, the higher variant will be on par with the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV.

9. MG Electric Crossover

MG Motor India will launch an all-electric vehicle before the end of FY 2022-23. To be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15, the new model will be an all-new electric crossover. It will be based on a global platform, which is customised for the Indian market. It is likely to offer a range of over 300kms, which will make it a rival to the Tata Nexon EV.

10. New Hyundai Small EV

2022 Hyundai Venue facelift

Hyundai is preparing to launch an all-new electric SUV for the Indian market. The new model will deliver a real-world range of around 200-220km. It could be an electric derivative of the Venue featuring BorgWarner integrated drive module (iDM). The iDM is a modular unit with an electric motor, a gearbox and power electronics.
