We informed you earlier that Mahindra plans to launch as many as 13 new models out of which, 8 will be electric. These models will be launched before the end of 2027. The electric range will include the eKUV100 and the XUV700. A new model will also join the line-up, which is likely to be called the Mahindra XUV400.
In fact, Rajest Jejurikar, executive director, auto and farm sectors at Mahindra Group said that the company could use the XUV400 moniker to name the electric version of the XUV300.
The Mahindra XUV400 name is yet to be finalised, and the chances of that happening are very good. This name was earlier planned for the all-new mid-sized SUV to be positioned between the XUV300 and the recently discontinued XUV500 in Mahindra’s line-up. This mid-sized SUV, codenamed S204, was planned to be based on Ford’s B-platform, which will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. With Ford and Mahindra partnership now called off, Mahindra is expected to use the XUV400 badge to name the eXUV300.
Mahindra is also preparing a new mid-sized SUV, which is expected to be launched by 2024-25. It is rumoured to be launched as the Mahindra XUV500. Set to be positioned below the XUV700, the new XUV500 model will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor.
The electric version of the Mahindra XUV300 was previewed as the eXUV300 concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. It is the first model based on Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA) platform. This model was equipped with a 350V powertrain, which is expected to be joined by a more powerful 380V powertrain. While the lower-spec model will rival the Nexon EV, the higher variant will be on par with the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV.
The electric XUV300 will be the first product to feature the battery cells developed by LG Chem exclusively for India application. The electric version of the XUV300 could share the styling from the concept model. Some of the design highlights include closed front grille, differently styled bumpers and new alloy wheels.
The new Mahindra XUV400 electric version was scheduled to be launched by 2023; however, due to chip shortage, the launch could be delayed further to 2024.
