Hyundai and Kia, the South Korean sister brands, have planned multiple new products for the Indian market. While Hyundai is reported to foray into the compact MPV space by mid 2022, the Carens will be the next big launch from Kia India. Besides these models, both brands will strengthen their electric product portfolio with the updated Hyundai Kona EV and the new Kia EV6 crossover. If reports are to be believed, both electic cars will see a release sometime this year. Here’re key details of the upcoming Hyundai and Kia EVs.
2022 Hyundai Kona EV
Hyundai Kona EV is ready to receive a mid-life update in India this year. The facelifted model, that made its global debut last year, has witnessed comprehensive cosmetic and feature updates. It gets newly-designed headlamps, slightly tweaked bumpers, wheel arches with body colour finish, new alloy wheels and less body cladding. The automaker has removed the front grille making it look better. The new 2022 Hyundai Kona has been equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, updated BlueLink connected car tech, blindspot assistance, safe exit warning and more. The new Kona will come with the 39.2kWh battery and 136bhp electric motor. The automaker might also introduce the larger battery with the Kona facelift.
Kia EV6
Kia EV6 crossover will be the first electric car from the South Korean automaker in India. The model has been designed on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform and it marks debut of the brand’s new ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. At the front, the electric crossover carries Kia’s new logo with angular headlamps flanking a slim grille. Some of its other key design elements include a sweptback windshield, body cladding around wheels, sloping C-pillar and unique taillamps. Inside, the Kia EV6 has a slim dashboard with two large displays – one for the infotainment system and other is for the digital instrument cluster. The centre console has a rotary gear selector, a start/stop button, two cupholders and a centre armrest. Its lightweight seats have been made up of recycled plastics.
