Tata Punch EV Could Be A Possibility – Official

The Tata Nexon EV has been the top-selling electric car in the country ever since its launch in January 2020. Now, the home-grown automaker aims to further strengthen its EV market with a bunch of new models including the Altroz EV. The electric premium hatchback is reported to arrive sometime next year. Speaking on the sideline of the Tata Punch unveiling, the company’s official said that the company might consider the Tata Punch EV if there is demand.

Tata’s upcoming small SUV underpins the Alfa (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture that’s compatible to different body styles and pure electric and hybrid powertrains. Therefore, it would be easy for the carmaker to bring in its electric version. The same platform underpins the Tata Altroz premium hatchback. While there is no official word on its specifications, the Tata Punch EV is likely to come with the updated version of the brand’s Ziptron powertrain technology. It might deliver a range of over 300kms.

Tata Punch Launch Date

Reports suggest that the company is planning to launch the more powerful version of the Tata Nexon EV delivering power around 134bhp. The same powertrain could be used in the upcoming Punch EV. At present, the Nexon EV comes with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor and a 26kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The electric motor returns a claimed power of 75bhp and 170Nm of torque. It’s capable to achieve0 to 60kmph in 5.7 seconds.

Minor cosmetic changes are likely to be made on the Tata Punch EV. Similar to the Nexon EV, the micro electric SUV could be offered in dual-tone Signature Teal Blue and White roof colour scheme. Upfront, it might get the grille with new bi-arrow pattern and blue accent. While the blue accent on the fog lamp surrounding will further enhance its electric nature, the black alloys and black plastic cladding all around the body add more to its sporty appeal.
