Korean automaker, Hyundai will launch the much-awaited new generation i20 hatchback in the Indian market in the second half of this year. Earlier planned to launch in June 2020, the new i20 launch has now been pushed to September. The launch has been delayed to due to Coronavirus Pandemic.

The next-gen Hyundai i20 hatchback will be offered with new petrol and diesel fuel options. It will be offered with an all-new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that offers two states of tunes – 118bhp with 172Nm and 99bhp with 172Nm. While the former currently powers the Venue compact SUV, the less powered unit powers the Grand i10 Nios Turbo and the Aura sub-4 meter sedan. The new i20 will be offered with a 118bhp, 1.0L unit. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The global model also gets a mild-hybrid version, which is equipped with a 1.0L T-GDi engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. The 48-Volt mild hybrid system can be offered with both 99bhp and 118bhp versions of the turbocharged petrol engines. It is claimed to help in achieving 3-4% reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Instead of regular manual transmission, the new i20 will receive six-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission. Called the iMT, the new gearbox unit decouples the engine from the transmission after the driver releases the accelerator, allowing the car to enter into coasting mode and saving fuel.

The entry-level variants will receive the BSVI compliant 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 83bhp of power and 110Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The new model will also receive a new diesel engine. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which also powers the Hyundai Venue. Featuring fixed geometry turbocharger, the new 1.5L engine produces 99bhp of maximum power and 225Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
