2020 Hyundai Elite i20 will be wider than the existing model.

Clear pictures and all details of the much-awaited 2020 Hyundai i20 has been officially revealed by the Korean automaker. The hatchback was scheduled to be unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show; however, the public debut was cancelled due to rising Covid19 (Coronavirus Disease 19). Featuring all-new design, the new Hyundai i20 will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz and the Honda Jazz .

The new 2020 Hyundai i20 received significant changes to exterior and interior along with the upgraded mechanics. The hatchback gets a more aggressive front, bolder details and uniquely styled rear end. The new model is based on the all-new FWD platform, which is claimed to be lighter and safer. It will receive 2 all-new engines that include a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel. These engines also power the Hyundai Venue . Hyundai is also readying the performance-oriented version of the upcoming i20 hatchback, called the N variant. It is expected to be unveiled in the second half of 2020 .

The new-gen Hyundai Elite i20 was scheduled to be launched in India around June 2020; however, launch has been postponed due to COVID-19 Pandemic. The new-gen i20 comes with signficant changes including revised styling, more premium and spacious interior and new powertrains. With all these upgrades, the hatchback will certainly witness a price hike. While the existing model comes in the price range of Rs 5.50 lakh – Rs 9.31 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the new-generation version is estimated to cost between Rs 6 lakh – Rs 10.50 lakh. New i20 Specifications

The new i20 hatchback will be offered in 3 engine options – a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel. The naturally-aspirated petrol engine is capable of producing 81.8bhp of power and 114.7Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 5-speed manual and an AMT.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine will come as a replacement for the 1.4-litre U2 CRDi unit. This engine churns out a maximum power out of 100bhp of power and 244Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard. The 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine is capable of producing 100bhp and 172Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT

Mileage

With BS6 emission norms, the upcoming new Hyundai i20 is expected to return higher fuel economy. We believe diesel to deliver around 25kmpl, while petrol could deliver up to 20kmpl.

Dimensions

The new Hyundai i20 hatchback is based on the modified version of the existing platform. The all-new i20’s proportions have been altered. The hatchback sits 24mm lower, while the length has been increased by 5mm. Width and the wheelbase have also been increased by 5mm and 10mm respectively, which should create more space inside the cabin. It rides on newly-designed 17-inch alloy wheels. The hatchback offers a luggage carrying capacity of 351-litres, which is 25-litres more than the outgoing hatch.

The new Hyundai i20 comes with bolder and sharper front end, thanks to the newly styled wider cascading grille and a sportier bumper with more pronounced air-intakes. It gets sculpted bonnet with multiple lines, rectangular-shaped headlamps with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) and triangular-shaped fog lamp housing. The rear profile is dominated by newly styled tail-lights that has ‘Z’ lighting signature. There is a thin LED strip that connects the tail-lamps. The all-new 2020 Hyundai i20 will come in 10 exterior colour options including 4 new ones – Intense Blue, Aurora Gray, Aqua Turquoise and Brass. Dual-tone options will be offered with Phantom Black roof .

2020 Hyundai i20 Interior

The all-new i20 hatchback comes with clutter-free cabin. It is equipped with a fully digital instrument console with 10.25-inch screen. The display automatically changes colour with the drive modes – Normal, Eco and Sport. It turns Blue, Green and Orange in Normal, Eco and Sport drive modes respectively. The central console is dominated by a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.

Similar to the Venue, the 2020 Hyundai i20 sports the Blue Link connected car technology along with Hyundai Live services including weather date, real time traffic updates and more. The next-gen Hyundai i20 will be offered with three interior trims – Yellow Green, Black Mono and Black and Gray and Black Mono. Other features include ambient lighting, wireless smartphone charger, keyless entry, push button start and a Bose premium audio system. Safety features include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear view camera and rear parking sensors.
