Toyota’s New SUV (Kia Seltos Rival) Based on Raize Platform – Report

Japanese automaker, Toyota is constantly increasing its SUVs portfolio globally. After introducing the Raize sub-4 meter SUV and the Yaris Cross, Toyota is working on an all-new Corolla based SUV – likely to be called the Corolla Cross. According to the Brazilian media, the company is also working on an all-new mid-sized SUV.

The new B-segment SUV is yet to receive a green light from the Toyota headquarters as the COVID-19 pandemic has seriously impacted the business globally. However, the SUV will be profitable for the brand as it will be a global SUV and will be launched in most of the developing nations.

Toyota Raize Platform

The report claims that the new B-segment Toyota SUV will be based on the TNGA-B platform, which is basically the low-cost version of the Toyota New Global Architecture. Also known as DNGA, this platform currently underpins the Toyota Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky. The new Yaris Cross is also developed on the TNGA-B platform. The new Toyota mid-sized SUV will take on the likes of the Jeep Renegade, Volkswagen T-Cross, Volkswagen Nivus, Nissan Kicks, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and others.

Previous media reports claim that Toyota is also planning to introduce the new DNGA modular platform in India. This platform will be used to develop an all-new mid-sized SUV, which will measure around 4.3 meters in length. The new SUV will be jointly developed by Toyota and Suzuki, and two versions of the SUV will be on sale. Toyota and Suzuki’s SUVs will come with different styling and will have unique interior. The new model will have an upright stance, large wheel arches and wheel sizes of up to 17-inches. The new SUVs are expected to be produced at the Toyota’s Bidadi manufacturing platform.
