Top New Car Launches In 2021 – Tata and Mahindra

In 2021, the Indian automobile industry will witness some important new car launches across segments. The two home-grown carmakers, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra have some really big plans for the next year. Here’re the top new car launches that have been planned by both carmakers for 2021.

Upcoming New Tata Cars In 2021

Tata Gravitas

Tata Gravitas Automatic

Tata Motors will kick start the new year with the launch of all-new Gravitas 6/7-seater SUV. The model is likely to hit showrooms in the first quarter of 2021 (i.e. January – March). The Tata Gravitas, which is essentially the bigger and premium version of the Harrier, will be the most expensive product in the company’s product lineup. It will share the platform (Omega) and engine setup (168bhp, 2.0L turbo diesel) with the Harrier along with some design bits and features.

Tata Hornbill

Tata Hornbill mini SUV

The home-grown carmaker will foray into the mini SUV segment with the all-new Hornbill (codename) in May, 2021. Based on the HBX concept, the Tata Hornbill will feature the Impact 2.0 design language and underpin the Alfa platform. It’s likely to come with the 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine options. The latter one could be reserved for the higher trims. Both manual and AMT gearboxes will be on offer.

Tata Altroz EV

Tata Altroz EV Specs

Tata Altroz’s electric iteration, which was first previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo, will also hit roads sometime in 2021. Similar to the Nexon EV, the Tata Altroz EV will feature an IP67 certified battery pack with a permanent magnet AC motor. The battery capacity, power output and range, however, could be different from the Nexon EV. It might also come with the new ZConnect app offering 35 connected car features. In terms of design, it will be slightly different from the ICE Altroz.

New-Gen Mahindra XUV500

New-gen Mahindra XUV500 Changes

Mahindra’s highly popular XUV500 SUV is set for a generation in the first quarter of 2021. Significant changes will be made inside and out along with a new petrol and more powerful diesel engine. The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will come with a new 2.0L mStallion turbo engine making 190bhp with 380Nm. The 2.2L mHawk diesel motor will be updated for generating power worth 180bhp. The SUV will also receive level 1 autonomous technology (ADAS) and Mercedes-Benz-inspired single-piece wide display.

New-Gen Mahindra Scorpio

2020 Mahindra Scorpio Upgrade

The new-generation Mahindra Scorpio is slated to launch in the second quarter of 2021 (April – June). The new model will be designed on modified body-on-ladder frame and receive noticeable cosmetic changes. Interior will also be revised with a bunch of new features. Similar to the new XUV500, the 2021 Mahindra Scorpio will come with the 2.0L mStallion turbo petrol and 2.2 turbo diesel engines delivering 160bhp with 350Nm and 150bhp with 380Nm respectively. Compared to the current generation, the new one will be bigger and have more cabin space to offer.

Mahindra eXUV300

BS6 Mahindra XUV300 Diesel

The Mahindra XUV300 electric compact SUV will come in late 2021. Sporting blue highlights and tweaked design bits, the eXVU300 will look slightly different from the regular model. It will be Mahindra’s first model to underpin MESMA (Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture) platform. It will come with 40kWh and 60kWh battery options offering range over 370km and over 450km respectively.
