Tata Hornbill (HBX) Compact SUV To Launch In May 2021?

Tata Motors has lined-up several new models for the Indian market. The next big launch from the home-grown carmaker will be the Tata Gravitas 7-seater SUV, followed by the Tata Hornbill mini SUV. According to a latest media report, the company might introduce the Hornbill subcompact SUV in May 2021.

Based on the Tata HBX concept that broke cover at this year’s Auto Expo, the mini SUV will feature the brand’s Impact 2.0 design language. It will be Tata’s second production model to underpin the Alfa platform.

It would be quite early to comment on its engine specifications. Though, the upcoming Tata Hornbill compact SUV is reported to come with a 1.2L, naturally aspirated petrol engine that’s good enough for 86bhp. The higher trims might be offered with a 1.2L turbo petrol motor. Gearbox choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT (automated manual transmission) unit. We have seen multiple spy pictures of the Hornbill revealing some interesting exterior and interior details. The production-ready version will carry LED headlamps with slim LED DRLs (daytime running lights), Tata’s signature tri-arrow design on the air dam and Tata’s ‘Humanity Line’ front grille. The square-ish wheel arches and pronounced belt line will adorn its side profile. Similar to the concept, the production model will sporty upright stance.

The rear profile will feature compact LED taillamps, prominent crease separating the tailgate and a raked rear windscreen. Pratap Bose, Vice President of Global Design at Tata Motors, has already confirmed that the Tata Hornbill (Tata HBX) will retain around 95% design bits from its concept. Its overall length, width and height will be around 3840mm, 1822mm and 1635mm respectively.

As of now, the interior details of the upcoming Tata compact SUV are scanty. Though, it’s likely to be equipped with advanced comfort, connectivity and safety features as we have seen in the new breed of Tata cars.
