X451 premium hatchback will be the first Tata product to be based on AMP (Advanced Modular Platform)

We had informed you that Tata Motors is working on a range of new products including a premium hatchback and a mid-sized sedan. The new cars will be based on the company’s new flexible Advanced Modular Platform (AMP). The first model to be based on this modular platform will be a premium hatchback, codenamed X451. This new hatchback is slated to be launched in the Indian market sometime in 2019.

Similar to the Volkswagen’s MQB platform, this new platform will be flexible to accommodate different size of cars. The new platform is made up of 15 individual modules that can be arranged together to form a complete car. This platform will allow the maker to alter the length, width and track of the car according to the size of the car. In fact, the wheelbase can be increased by up to 100mm. This AMP platform will help automaker to share components between two different type of cars. The premium hatchback X451 will be positioned above the Tiago and will come as a replacement for the Tata Bolt. It is expected that Tata Motors could showcase the prototype of the car at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo in February.

Besides X451, the new mid-sized sedan on the AMP platform will rival the likes of Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna. The new model will be offered in both petrol and diesel engines. It is likely that the new cars will share mechanics with the new Tata Nexon compact SUV.
