It is expected that the Solio could play a role in the development of the 7-seat Maruti WagonR.

Japanese automaker, Suzuki has been testing the Solio 7-seater MPV in the Indian market for quite some time. It is expected that the Solio could play a role in the development of the 7-seat Maruti WagonR. We believe that the Solio could be the 7-seater Wagon R in India.

The Solio is basically a JDM-only ‘compact height wagon’ class model. First launched in 2015, the new Solio received a facelift in 2015. Both models have been spotted testing on Indian roads. Suzuki is already retailing the sub-4 meter compact MPV in the Japanese and Chinese markets. Sitting on a long wheelbase, this model offers a spacious cabin with ample head and legroom. The model features remote control electric sliding rear doors, which enhances its practicality. Also See – New-Gen Maruti WagonR – All Details

In terms of proportions, the new Suzuki Solio is 3,710mm in length, 1,625mm in width and 1,745mm in height. It comes with a wheelbase of 2,480mm. Powering the model is the K12C 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 89bhp of power and 118Nm of torque. Read – Maruti could launch Solio as a 7-seater WagonR

The Japanese spec model also comes with a mild-hybrid system, featuring the WA05A electric motor with a 3Ah Lithium-ion battery. Adding to it, a full-hybrid model is also on sale which uses the PB05A electric motor and a 4.4Ah Lithium-ion battery. Also See – Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Cars In India

The Suzuki Solio is based on the company’s new-generation HEARTECT platform that also underpins the new Swift and Dzire. It is expected that the India-spec model will continue with the existing platform. Though, we believe that the Heartect platform will allow the maker to make a more frugal WagonR. If media reports are to be believed, the WagonR 7-seater model will go on sale during festive season and will sit under 4 meter in length.
